Fiesta

RANDOM FRIDAY PHOTO

RANDOM FRIDAY PHOTO:  enjoyable evening in Motril the other day. So many people turned out for Three Kings night on Sunday 5th – the procession of floats started just after 6pm and seemed to last for hours – good excuse for a tapas trail!

RANDOM FRIDAY PHOTO

RANDOM FRIDAY PHOTO: taken yesterday approaching nearby Vélez de Benaudalla,
a short and scenic drive North from here. Not an ideal day to pass through, the feast of San Antonio and 3 day fiesta – highlight being the traditional battle between Moors and Christians… Continue reading

BELÉN VIVIENTE

BELÉN VIVIENTE: the other afternoon I witnessed a rather different reminder of the Christmas Season, the live Nativity.  6kms away, a scenic 10 minute drive into the hills behind Cortijo Nuevo, discover the sleepy village of Los Tablones. Here every year the villagers celebrate Christ’s birth by re-enacting the Biblical message…

PUNTALÓN FIESTA, en honora a SAN ISIDRO

PUNTALÓN FIESTA en honor a San Isidro, is taking place this weekend, just ‘around the corner’!  Cortijo Nuevo is hidden only a 10 minute stroll from the village of Puntalón in the older barrio, Las Ventillas… a sleepy place where little disrupts simple daily life. Until the last weekend in May when Tradition dictates 3 days and nights of merriment…

RANDOM FRIDAY PHOTO

RANDOM FRIDAY PHOTO, an images taken just 10 minutes up the mountain in the neighbouring village La Garnatilla. A sleepy little place where life as changed little for centuries and they still have no telephone lines! Traditions abound and many households erect beautiful crosses to celebrate in early May, La fiesta de la Cruz.

Locally another Bank holiday, yesterday May 3rd – Motril itself has a total of 49 decorated crosses that can be viewed all over town, with various flowers and offerings…need a couple of days off work to pray at them all!

Please send to the Blog any of your Andaluz images for inclusion:-

SEMANA SANTA / Miércoles Santo

SEMANA SANTA / Miércoles Santo. After a traumatic day with the sad death of my dog Hugo, thought it best to venture into Motril town and company rather than dwell on events, home alone…

DÍA DE LOS TERREMOTOS / Earthquake Day

DÍA DE LOS TERREMOTOS,  known locally in Motril as Earthquake day – January 13th each year.

This morning started as another typically lazy day on the coast.  After the obligatory dog walk and breakfast, what to do?  The never ending cutting back in the Winter garden, chasing some new bookings or a quick run into Motril first to catch the shops before siesta at 2pm!  Anyway, decision taken from me as Monika, a Winter traveller staying here at Cortijo Nuevo, arrived home early saying Motril streets deserted and everything shut up tight… Continue reading
