"It's a paradise"

This amazing place is more than a holiday house - it's a paradise!  Patric set up a very cozy and beautiful place, as well as in the rooms (kitchen, living room, roof terrace, bedroom), as in the beautiful garden, which makes you want to stay longer...worth the price!  You should plan to stay some time and explore the garden with all it's little suprises at day and night time!   We will come back!!!

Owner reply:

Many thanks for your Excellent 5* review and generous praise.  Always lovely to hear positive comments and delighted to see that you enjoyed the gardens late into the night, even in chilly November (the outdoor log fireplace does help!).  Looking forward to welcoming you back one day...

After a long journey South came (finally) time for a few days of sweet rest from walking miles with a backpack on my back!  For this moment, I picked a secluded spot that was looking good in the pictures, and it was so amazing that it was worth describing.  The property is located in the suburbs of Motril, a few tourist towns on the coast, in a very best area amongst the ubiquitous greenhouses.  Driving there the navigation system was showing a small distance 500 metres and the scenery stubbornly wouldn't change!  I was getting more and more depressed, close to travelling back, luckily I didn't do it and I got there.  The property is surrounded by a wall that cuts out the ugly views of the outside World.  A beautiful lush garden with 1500 square metres, orange and lime trees that you can pick.  You know what it smells like freshly cut limes from the tree?  Really great!  There are also bananas and various herbs, including mint and basil.   If you want to spend time in the garden, you have to make a decision which of the fountains you want to sit - one with alot of frogs or a high cascading one hidden in a thick grove or the one in the creepers of the gazebo near a small swimming pool.  The environment and swimming pool are finished in a traditional Spanish, slightly rustic style with white walls and panache.  The bedroom and terrace are traditionally decorated in the guest house.  Here beautiful Azulejos, really interesting decor.  There is a fireplace outside in the garden.  This is not an absurd idea, at the end of October and November the Andalusian days are still very warm, but the nights are already cold enough that sitting in the air is no longer pleasant....unless you have a log fireplace.   The most interesting thing about all this, is that the property is easily the most 'Spanish' of all that I visited (as well as the overwhelming majority offered by www.airbnb.com), it belongs to and is the work of an Englishman, Patrick who lives in Spain for 17 years now.  He has created a home and garden and finished his own - bought a few years early - a holiday home.   Sitting in a lush garden like this, a man starts to wonder jf he won't throw all this shit.  And replace his life with a full cool garden, fresh air among the green, and sun at his fingertips!?  But, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait....

A true oasis, and a special place where you least expect it.  Close to the beach, great tapas in the village, and a secret garden brimming with exotic, well-tended plants.  Boris, Dino and Hector make the stay - and Patrick :)!   A cooling pool, a BBQ area, and a quirky cottage or the spacious apartment (we stayed in both).  A retreat for readers, writers, artists and dog lovers.

'A sheer delight as always'

We have spent 3 weeks in both The Casa and El Apartamento over the last couple of years.  We liked both for different reasons.  The Casa for being on different levels and quirky and El Apartamento for being on the level and with a better position for viewing it's vistas.  Being sun worshippers we were catered for rather well, spent most of our time in and around the pool.  If at any time one was feeling in need of some shade, there are numerous places to sit in the garden under the tree canopy.

Owner Reply:

Many thanks Gerry for taking the trouble to post your excellent 5* review.  So pleased that you and Liz enjoyed your 3 sunny weeks relaxing by the swimming pool.  Looking forward to welcoming you back for a third visit next year...

"All in all we can't recommend this place enough, it was wonderful"

We had a wonderful stay at your beautiful apartment!  It was the best apartment we had so far.  Your property is really something special.   We loved the dogs, we loved the beach nearby, we loved your garden and your pool and we especially loved the guest home (Casa Pequeña).  It was just perfect.  If we had known before how good it is, we'd have decided to stay much longer.

It was an amazing stay at Patrick's guest house.  He's a charming guy as are his three dogs.  The garden and the house are just BEAUTIFUL!    Thank you so much for this time.  Best regards.

Owner reply:

Pleased that you loved the location, cottage, pool and even the dogs!  Yes, with a car the beach is only minutes away and Motril with it's many tapas bars and restaurants.  Try to stay for longer on your next trip over...

"5 out of 5 out of 5 out of..."

We spent one week at Patricks garden oasis in Motril, it provided us with privacy, comfort and very, very interesting surroundings.  The garden is exotic; fascinating during daytime and positively enchanting at night.  The accommodation, whilst a little higgledly piggledly (search Google) view it if you need to, is perfectly adequate; the kitchen is very well equipped, the bedroom en-suite, the living room comfortable and the sea view terrace refreshing - the ways in which these spaces are connected is unusual - but in a good way - we loved it!   At all times we felt very safe and secure, the location, albeit slightly off the beaten track is an Oasis; a tropical garden in an otherwise agricultural environment.  Patrick's dogs ever vigilant, yet protective of us guests, were a source security.  Hector the cheeky cocker is a character (and don't leave your car door open!).  Hi to (the wayward) Hector and his cohorts, Patrick is lucky to have such great companions.  The garden is amazing, every time we walked it we found some new folly or detail...and the night time walk is even more enchanting!   All-in-all, we had a great time and hope to visit again.  Take care of yourself, Hector, Boris and Dino and of course the garden, our very best regards...

Owner reply:

Many thanks for your positive review and kind words.  Delighted that you loved your week relaxing in the Andalucian sunlight; appreciating the casita accommodation and lush gardens.  Designed to be enjoyed well into the early hours with the ambient lighting, warmth and fountains.  My favourite times, spent watering all those plants at 3am!   Looking forward to perhaps welcoming you both back in the future - Hector missing you already....

We have spent some very pleasant days.  We enjoyed the pool and the friendly dogs.  Little Hector has been our guardian during our stay.  Patrick has been very helpful and accommodating.

Many thanks for your 5* review.  Pleased that you chose to explore The Costa Tropical, leaving your home on the nearby Costa del Sol. Your two pet dogs were delightful and nice they were friends with my three. Looking forward to a return trip.

"Fantastic Relaxing Retreat"

Great property in beautiful grounds and a very peaceful location. Ideally situated to explore the coast and inland,  and a perfect place for road or MTB cycling (multiple routes to suit all levels).   It's on our very small 'would definitely go back to' list.

Owner Reply:

Delighted that you found it so easy to relax here for three weeks and enjoyed the calm tranquility.  Despite it being August and the week long Summer fiesta (day & night) in nearby Motril.   Welcome to return anytime for more cycling, Hector dog missing you already!

"Unas vacaciones estupendas"

Patrick, thanks again for hospitality.  Everything was Excellent.  The garden is beautiful!  The dogs are very friendly.  Hector is nice but hyperactive when we are leaving and it's hard to bring him in home from the street.

Owner reply:

Thanks Mikhail for taking the time to post your Excellent 5* Review.  So pleased that you both loved it here.  Hector, the cocker spaniel loves car rides and wants to go to the beach with everybody!  Simply drag him back into the gardens by his collar if he tries to follow, it's a game to him...

"Beautiful, tranquil"

Beautiful apartment with lots of chill out spaces, lovely furnishings, home from home.  Patrick a great host with loads of local knowledge, he so kindly took us to some great tapas bars in Motril only 10 minutes drive away, a lovely town with great beach.  There was also a brilliant bus service which we used to go to Granada, only 50 minutes away.  A must see if you stay in this area.  Thank you Patrick for your kindness and hospitality.  I will definitely be back.

Owner reply:

Many thanks for posting your Excellent 5* review.  Delighted that you relaxed and enjoyed your time here.  Taking advantage of the new modern bus station, just minutes away in Motril.  Comfortable coaches go all over Andalucia from there, and even a connection to Puntalón village 5 times a day.  However, unless you intend to just chill in the gardens or poolside, a hire car is highly recommended for more flexibility or those late nights out...

Just as it was described.  We were made very welcome by Patrick and his three dogs.  The gardens were spectacular with something different round every corner.  Very peaceful with its own pool and outside dining area/bbqs.  Very quick and easy to get to Motril, the beaches and to the mountains.  Patrick was always available for help and recommendations.  We would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience something a bit different.

Owner reply:

Many thanks for taking the trouble to post your 5* Review.  So pleased that you easily relaxed here (most do!), enjoying the lush gardens, bustling Motril, beaches and mountains.  All accessible within minutes.  Hope to welcome you back in the future.

Great place for complete relaxation!  Its garden is beautiful and the terrace of the roof perfect to stay and to enjoy nights of Andalucia.  Watching the boats passing by the Port of Motril.  This house is surrounded by the local greenhouses, and the apartment itself above the host apartment.  There are no neighbours making noise, only the noise of frogs during the night time.  We were unique in the house, in its garden and also at the pool area.  It's very sad to say, that for our apartment have not made any real cleaning long tome ago.  Real professional deep cleaning is necessary especially for the kitchen and upgrading its furniture.

Beautiful Oasis in sunny dry Spain.  Fully equipped and lots of food for the first day so visit to the supermarket could be postponed.  A car is necessary to get around, good parking space, friendly dogs with each their own character, lovely swimming pool.  Every walk through the garden we discovered new plants and ornaments.  Some things could use a lick of paint, or seem to be a bit outdated (vintage though) but no problem for us.  At night the garden is like a fairytale.  We did a lot of hiking in the surroundings of Motril, but also had some nice hours at the beach.   Patrick is a nice man who enjoys his gardening and having guests.

A spacious and cozy house with cute dogs and a beautiful garden.  We just stayed 1 night on our way from Malaga to Granada, but we regret that we don't have enough time to stay more to enjoy the place.  Everything was in place, so all you need to do is find a way to the place, which is super easy with Patrick's help.   Cheers!

"Quiet, well located self-catering apartment in sub-tropical garden"

El Apartamento is a well-equipped, comfortable and atmospheric self-catering facility ideal for couples.  The roof garden caters for sun-worshippers.  The owner, Patrick, is a genial and most helpful Ex-pat Englishman and dog-lover who has developed a delightful sub-tropical garden.  The nearby town, Motril, has all you need, including an excellent supermarket, and many attractions including The Sierra Nevada are within an hour or two driving.                       Recommend.

"things are what they are, and whatever will be will be"

You're never too old for an adventure as I've found out this winter.  I left my country for the first time on my own to go to Spain. With no hablo español and experiencing many trials and tribulations.  I've laughed, I've cried and for a while I found myself without a roof over my head.  But I found a new place in El Apartamento, ate tapas, drank wine, went to festivals, walking on the beach, and most importantly....I've met many interesting and loving people!   So like the hundred year old man, I climbed out of the window and started my new life in Spain.

"A return visit to this beautiful retreat which, once again did not disappoint"

Fantastic location very close to the coast.  The Apartment is ideal for our needs being nice and cosy on the odd unfavourable day, with a great roof terrace for when the sun is shining.  The completion of the A7 motorway now makes the whole of the south coast from Almeria to Malaga and beyond easily accessible, especially since the motorway access is only a couple of minutes away.  Once again the gardens were an absolute joy from the orange and lemon trees available for the freshest fruit possible and even the banana tree in full fruit.  Plus of course all the other delightful plants to be found there.  It never fails to amaze us how we keep discovering new areas in the garden, where it always seems possible to find a sheltered or sunny spot whatever the weather.  The gardens are constantly evolving due to Patrick's obvious love of his property and his attention to detail.   We have already booked again to return next year and can't wait to go back.

Owner reply:

Pleased that you so enjoyed and relaxed on your six week winter break in the sun.  Looking forward to welcoming you both back on New Years Eve, for stay number three.  Expect some new planting in the gardens before then...

Patrick's garden is an absolutely enchanting placewe loved sitting out by the logfire and enjoying the twinkling lights of this spectacular oasis.  The cottage is very comfortable and the bed was very comfortable too!  Patrick is a lovely Gentleman who offers a warm welcome and provides lots of special touches.   We highly recommend this place.

Review submitted by Robin from Sevenoaks, Kent  06/10/2016

Although the village was easy enough to find with the satnav, the actual road wasn't! - it is an unmade country road without street markings - but Patrick was very good and appeared at short notice to lead the way.  It's a bit disconcerting at first as the road is dusty and potholed and surrounded by industrial greenhouse agriculture, but don't let that put you off because the actual house and gardens are comfortable, quirky and full of interest.  For us, the pool and outdoor kitchen area was absolutely delightful and a welcome chance to recover from the shock of our first day in the heat!  The thoughtful supply of bread, milk, coffee etc., were especially welcome as we were unable to shop on our way.  Patrick, the dogs and the accommodation were all very welcoming and it was a great first day for our holiday.  Highly recommended, thank you.

We had a nice stay at the house of Patrick!  Kitchen equipped for cooking, nice fridge even with some drinks already!  Loads of privacy, nice roof terrace and lovely garden.  Has everything you need, even coolbox etc.!  Close to the beach, not that much happening around town, but everything close and very quiet for some relaxing time.  Patrick is a great and helpful host.  Mind the longer people, the shower is quite low ceiling & the bed is a bit small for taller people (my boyfriend is 198 cm).

"Absolutely Amazing!"  5*****

We had the most amazing chilled holiday at Casa Pequeña. The host Patrick was so helpful and charming and available to answer any queries we had.  This little oasis is tucked away from the noise of everyday living, but yet so close to the bustling town of Motril.  The gardens are truly incredible and Casa Pequeña has got everything one needs for a truly relaxing stay.  Wonderful pool, BBQ areas etc., we were sad to leave and bade farewell to Patrick and his 3 wonderful dogs; Boris, Dino & Hector with a promise that we shall return to this piece of paradise.

Owner reply:

Delighted that you found your stay at Casa Pequeña so rewarding and loved the gardens and ambience.  True, property so close to Motril with all it's tapas bars, boutiques and great shopping, beaches and the like.  Pity holiday over, Motril summer fiesta started yesterday - 6 days and nights of merriment, although hard to believe in the silent gardens here....looking forward to welcoming you both back in the not too distant future.

"Tired and unloved"

Now back home and studying all the reviews again - I agree with the German people who visited in 2015 compared to all the others from previous years.  I am unsure what has gone wrong, but this place is very unkempt, tired and in need of a facelift both in the gardens and in the casita which we rented.  When you meet Patrick he comes across as a very nice gentleman and shows you something that on the surface looks great, but once you are alone to discover your surroundings it's another view.  One should not have to clean the place on arrival.  This should be done for you and it's for the tenant then to leave it as found.  We left the place after one hour as not prepared to clean for Patrick.  We had to e-mail him as he popped out when we decided to leave and was shocked that we thought there was a problem and presumed we didn't like the Spanish rural location.  Far from it, if I wanted Blackpool in the sun I would have booked into Benidorm.  Luckily we found a lovely authentic hotel with no English and enjoyed the rest of the week.

Owner reply:

Also disappointed that Casa Pequeña failed to match expectations and apologies for the perceived shortcomings!  Pleased that alternative and more suitable accommodation was found and holiday enjoyed. Nontheless, some clarification is required:

1 - to quote from e-mail after hasty departure some hours later,  "Sorry to have left your property so soon, the place was very quaint and charming but not to my Husbands taste and not as he imagined it would be from photos on the web.  He is rather OCD when it comes to cleanliness and was peturbed at the kitchen not being to his standard, oops and too much dust".  It would have been courteous to mention this dissatisfaction face-to-face, rather than drive off indicating a supermarket shop in nearby Motril. Recleaning (if necessary) would have been organised.

2 - Of course Casa Pequeña is always cleaned to a good standard before arrivals and a welcome pack popped into the fridge.  The vast majority of travellers are perfectly satisfied and many return.  However, if one arrives with a negative mindset and the 'need' to undertake an in depth investigation of cleaning practices (brought about by OCD symptons), then I defy any rural Spanish cottage to pass!  Often swallows, geckos and tree frogs visit, the lush jungle growth becomes an alien territory and 'unsafe' to spend time in. Plus, throw 3 waggy dogs into the mix, wandering around and basking in the baking sun - everything becomes too much to cope with and a worry.

3 - If considering a stay in either home in 2017, perhaps do some research on the internet (lots there, been renting for years!).  Please do not expect to find a sterile, spartan holiday-type villa.  More as other travellers understand; a quirky, tranquil base and quite different from the standard rental home, both in amenities and ambience.

4 - Interestingly, despite being more than satisfied with the location.  Alternative and very different accommodation was sought well away from the Costa Tropical in a more touristy area at a luxury hotel!

Many thanks!  Delighted that you loved Casa Pequeña, the garden and dogs.  You must return and stay longer next time you want to escape from City life!

"Highly Recommended"

"A walled garden paradise"

We have just returned home from 10 amazing days spent at Casa Pequeña and it was so much more than we were expecting.  The garden is incredible and every day we found a new little bit.  The place is very secure, so felt comfortable sleeping with the windows open and never worried about leaving the doors unlocked.   Although the pool and garden is shared with residents from El Apartamento, we only saw them briefly a couple of times in the 10 days, although it is huge and would never have any problems finding your own space.  The WiFi coverage was great and covers the whole range of the garden and roof terrace.  The kitchen, lounge and bathroom are all on different levels and gives the accommodation a really lovely quirkiness, if you like things a bit different you will love this place.  Patrick has three resident dogs, Dino, Boris and Hector who are adorable.  Hector is a bit of a fusspot and would often come up and chill with us in the evening.  Patrick was always around when we needed something and always there for advice about the local bars and facilities, a very friendly and laid back guy.   Sometimes in the evening a couple of red headed swifts would fly up and perch themselves on the window sil, truly magical.  We had an amazing time here and can't wait to come back, especially to see the dogs too.  Highly recommended.

Owner reply:

Many thanks for your generous praise!  Always great when travellers appreciate and enjoy this place, usually managing to relax away from the stresses of the 21st Century!!  Of course the tranquility, sunshine, gardens and dogs all contribute.  My stress levels are practically zero living here fulltime!   Looking forward to welcoming you both back in the future, Hector will be waiting....

Pleased that you loved Costa Tropical Oasis (staying in El Apartamento), the special gardens, dogs, tranquility and swimming pool.  Looking forward to welcoming you back soon!

"The garden and surrounds make this place a haven"

Patrick has created a pocket of paradise amidst the agricultural area between Motril and Puntalón, in his lush quirky garden with quiet nooks for relaxing and a pool area for sunning or cooling off with a dip.  Our bedroom was so comfy and "Arabian nights" like, that we slept in till 11am.  The flow of air from the beach side kept it cool even in the summer heat.  We only stayed 2 nights so didn't get to appreciate the full relaxing pleasure of the gardens or take pictures of all the suprising statues and decorations (like 'David', the meercats etc.,), but used the pool, kitchen, our rooftop terrace, lounge and library and ate in the tiny town of Puntalón with the locals.   Anyone extremely tall should probably look at the larger apartment because the shower in Casa Pequeña is height challenged.  I was fine, but my partner had to bend his knees a little to fit.    Must love dogs to stay here because they will love you.

Owner reply:

Happy that you were very comfortable during your quick stopover here: managing to relax in the gardens and test the swimming pool in this crazy heat.  The shower does have a built in seat to help accommodate giants, the locals here do tend to be rather short!   And yes, good advice El Apartamento has a larger shower unit, plus a bathtub.   Enjoy the rest of your travels around Spain and do try to visit again when next on The Costa Tropical, Boris will be waiting!

We stayed here for one night on our travels around Andalucía.  Patrick is a friendly and welcoming host, as are his lovely dogs!  The villa is a haven of peace and quiet, and the garden is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing afternoon or evening.  The accommodation was very attractive and generously kitted out with all we could need for our stay.  Thank you for a great stay.     Highly recommended.

Owner reply:

Pleased that you loved your all, but too brief stay here at Casa Pequeña.  Do try to stay for longer on your next trip to Andalucía.

"Best place on our trip"

Over a period of 15 years, Patrick has created a charmingly unique and beautiful place for relaxation.  We stayed at his Casa Pequeña that perfectly suits for two. Offering bedroom, bathroom, kitchen on the first floor and a living room on the second floor, with a door leading to our very own rooftop terrace.  Doors and windows open most of the time, a relaxing breeze usually keeps the house in nice temperature.  The garden Patrick built is a gem.  Beautifully illuminated during the night, it features multiple little fountains and lush trees, bushes and flowers.  His three dogs are a joy to be around.  We had a great time and can definitely recommend the place!

Owner reply:

Pleased that you both loved Casa Pequeña and found it to be the best place so far on your extensive European trip.  Safe onward travels through more countries, before heading back to America later in the Summer!

"My Dream Holiday, Relaxing, Fulfilled"

My dream holiday, relaxing, fulfilled.  Patrick the owner was most accommodating throughout our stay at Casa Pequeña.  Greeting us on arrival, then a quick guided tour of the apartment and a hamper that was pre-arranged, continuing the tour through the garden to the pool area.  The apartment has an unconventional layout that soon grew on us, we loved it.  All the amenities one would wish for, to feel at home.  For us, Liz and Myself relaxing was the most important reason for going...and the sun.  We were not disappointed, with walks in the garden while going to the pool, we would always find something different hiding in the eclectic mix of bushes and trees each time, that we had not spotted previously.  The pool was just right for cooling down during those spells sunbathing or reading a good book.  I would like to take this opportunity in thanking Patrick and the other house tenants Dino, Boris, Hector three adorable dogs, who you can't help falling in love with, we did.  We intend going to this Oasis Paradise again.

Owner reply:

Many thanks for your Excellent 5* Review.  So pleased that you enjoyed your three week break here at Casa Pequeña, rarely leaving the lush gardens and finding them secluded enough to enjoy naked.  Sometimes described as Garden of Eden and you both confirmed that.  The dogs are missing your company, especially Boris.   Looking forward to welcoming you back next year.

My husband and myself along with our two boys spent two enjoyable days at the property.  The apartment was very well equipped.  It's exactly as described - typically Spanish tranquil casa with a beautiful garden.  Patrick is a pleasant  easy going host, and the dogs are friendly and well behaved, our boys enjoyed playing with the dogs.

Owner reply:

So pleased that you loved your short time here at El Apartamento.  Yes, it is an easy place to relax within the special gardens.  The resident dogs; Dino, Boris and Hector are missing playing with the boys.  I hope to welcome you back when you need another sunshine break near the beach!

"A Hidden Paradise"

My wife and myself along with our eight month old shih tzu spent a very enjoyable and tranquil long weekend at the property. The apartment was very well equipped and exactly as described it was typically Spanish, for us it felt like home from home.  The gardens are absolutely wonderful far better than we imagined with plants from various parts of the World.  Also three very friendly dogs can sometimes be found, the spaniel "Hugo" quite often can be seen cooling off in one of the many water features or fountains.  There is a reasonable size pool at the far end of the gardens (we tried it once but too cold for us, living in Spain for the last seven years we are acclimatised and do not swim this early in the year, Brrr! ) The pool terrace has a nice shaded area to chill out.  Also in this area is a summer kitchen with barbacoa and gas ring, paella pan if you are feeling really adventurous.  Patrick the owner of the property besides being a very passionate gardener, is a very approachable and friendly person without encroaching on your privacy.  Although the property is situated amongst the "plastic greenhouses" do not let that deter you from visiting this tranquil casa.  The costas Salobreña, Almuñécar are only a short drive away, or Granada and Alhambra no more than fourty minute drive.   I would recommend this property whether you want to use it as as a base for sightseeing or visiting the many beaches along the Costa Tropical,  (which hasn't been ruined by mass tourism) or just chill on your roof or garden terrace within the wonderful gardens that Patrick has created surrounding the Casa Nuevo.  Highly recommended and we will definitely be returning to this hidden paradise.

Owner reply:

Many thanks for your Excellent 5* Review Richard.  So pleased that you both loved it here.  Looking forward to welcoming you back for return stay in July, with Mia.

"Return visit"

We last visited Patrick 10 years ago to stay for a month. Then we popped in about 4 years ago for a coffee when we were in the area. On our return stay this month we found Patrick (the owner)his usual welcoming self, helpful and interesting and great fun to talk to or just there if needed for anything.  The gardens are superb so relaxing lots of places to sit in tranquility or just catch some sun. We travelled with our dog who like us had an amazing time. He loved playing with Patrick's lovely three dogs and enjoyed eating their food!!  During this visit we stayed local enjoying time, food and drink in Motril, Almuñécar and Nerja. All within a short drive away.  Would highly recommend to anyone seeking a holiday where you can immerse yourself in Spanish culture.

Owner reply:

Nice to welcome you both back after your 10 year absence and delighted that you still loved El Apartamento, the special gardens and tranquility.  My dogs are missing new friend Sid.  You must try to return sooner next time, with Brexit looming homes like this may not be available in 10 more years!!!

"A quirky place with interesting gardens"

The listing description regarding location, layout, facilities were accurate.  The property needed a bit of a clean when we arrived; however, Patrick had to go for a hospital appointment at short notice on the day of arrival.  Patrick was fun and very hospitable.   I would recommend the place to a friend if they wanted a quiet relaxing time at 'The Oasis'.   A car is needed though, to travel around the area.  Restaurants were in Motril which is a short drive away.   We enjoyed walking in the Alpujarras mountains which were 35-60 minutes away from the apartment.

Owner reply:

Many thanks for taking the time to submit your good review.  Apologies for not having El Apartamento completely ready for your arrival.  Normally, everything is prepared, welcome pack and in order by 3pm.  However, as mentioned I was unexpectedly detained in hospital that morning for a minor eye operation, at very short notice.  Anyway, pleased that you enjoyed the tranquility, gardens and fell walking behind in La Alpujarra mountains.  I hope to welcome you both back in the future.

'Charming accommodation situated in a Private Tropical Oasis!'

The Apartment is charmingly appointed and while compact has everything one needs and more besides.  The host is very helpful, available and not intrusive.  The roof terrace has lovely views and the experience of staying there was one we would repeat - Highly recommended!

Review submitted by Anna & Gabriel from Monaco  04/04/2016

I stayed in El Apartamento with my husband and daughter just after Easter which we all found absolutely charming and have no reservations in recommending.  The host Patrick is extremely helpful and available for any guidance but also discrete.  The "Oasis" truly is such!  The setting is a glorious tropical garden which Patrick has created.  There are wonderful views from the roof terrace and the apartment is very comfortable and considerately and generously organised with all essentials one may need without having to dash to the shops immediately!  The whole place has character and charm - if you want a place to stay which is not just the bare essentials you will appreciate the way Patrick has done so much to make the experience of staying here one you will wish to return to.  The location is very easy to reach from the main motorway route and convenient to explore from.  This wonderful "Oasis" is nestled amidst the plastic greenhouses and we appreciated this unconvential aspect away from the "urbanisations"!  We will definitely return!

Patrick is great, very friendly and he doesn't bother you at all, so you can feel like at home!  He was flexible about the arrival and departure time which it was nice of him because we wanted to spend as much time as we could in his awesome place!  The best of the apartment is the garden, either at night or during the day.  Perhaps we will return one day because the experience was unforgettable.

Review submitted by Peter & Jane from Oxford  14/03/2016

We had a really enjoyable week staying in this comfortable apartment, with its roof terrace looking over to the sea on one side and the mountains on the other.  The tropical garden is lovely.  Paths meander towards the swimming pool, past fountains, lemon, orange and avocado trees.  There are fountains and statues, the scent of jasmine and the garden becomes magical when lit up at night.  Dino, Boris and Hector, Patrick's 3 dogs are a joyful addition.

Many thanks for taking the time to post your excellent review.  So pleased that you loved your stay at Costa Tropical Oasis and enjoyed relaxing in the gardens.  Hector will miss his daily visits: hope to welcome you back sometime when searching for some more Winter sun...

'Dogs on holiday'

We booked El Apartamento a year in advance and at that time we only had 3 dogs.  By the time we went, we had 5 dogs and we were still welcome.  The dogs can run freely in the completely fenced/walled garden.  The distance to the sea is 5 minutes by car.  You do need a car to get around.  Patrick is very welcoming and helpful.  Very good value for money.  It was the second time staying there and would always go back.  Ideal for dog owners!!

Owner reply:

Pleased that you enjoyed your long Winter break here! Of course always welcome back: your dogs are so well trained and quiet and lovely to have a couple of keen gardeners too. Should point out that travelling here with a pet dog is not mandatory, the majority of bookings are pet free. The gardens are designed nicely to accommodate all, with many private areas.

'Dog and garden lovers paradise in non-touristy part of Spain'

We came to recce before a longer stay later in the Winter.  Exactly as we ordered!  Mega dog friendly accommodations, which would be hard to find anywhere else.  Beautiful gardens for wandering, lovely roof terraces for chilling.  Peaceful and laid back.  Patrick is a mine of information about the area and will be as available as you wish or not...

Many thanks for your excellent review.  Pleased that the accommodations met with your requirements.  So looking forward to welcoming you and the spaniels in November.

'Fabulous location both for lazing around and exploring the area'

We had the benefit of being able to stay in both Casa Pequeña and El Apartamento.  Both properties have their advantages and it is difficult to choose between the two.  The casa is quirky being on different levels but seems to have easier access to the gardens.  This is really a mindset thing as El Apartamento is really just as accessible, but we loved the large roof terrace in the apartment.  A wonderful location for exploring the south coast and Las Alpujarras, especially since the motorway is now complete.  Travelling to Malaga airport is now much easier.  The gardens are amazing, with lots of little hidden corners - every trip through them seemed to throw up a new, previously undiscovered delight.  Night time is especially rewarding with all the garden lighting.  We can't wait to return next year and take advantage of Patrick's great hospitality once again, as well as meeting up with his three friendly dogs.

Owners reply:

Many thanks for taking the trouble to submit your lovely Review.  So pleased that you enjoyed your first visit to Cortijo Nuevo and have already reserved 6 week period next Winter.  Winters down on the Costa Tropical are rather special, enabling all manner of tender plants to flourish in the gardens here.  Dino, Boris & Hector are looking forward to welcoming Ruby back!  See you in 2017

'A gardener's and dog lovers paradise'

Visit Cortijo Nuevo (Costa Tropical Oasis), a haven for green fingered guests and for dog-lovers.  Patrick and his 4 legged family, Hector, Dino and Boris will welcome you to this little bit of jungle paradise on the Costa Tropical.  A suprising oasis in this horticultural area of Andalucía.  Accommodation is quirky, comfortable and homely - not sterile, not a typical holiday rental.   Leave your high heels and good clothes at home.  You must love dogs and have your own transport.  A relaxed and laid back holiday awaits,  through the gates of Costa Tropical Oasis.

Owner reply:

So pleased that you loved your time here.  Yes, very popular with keen gardeners and dog lovers.  The accommodations are slightly different from the norm and many travellers return time and again from all over the World...

Review submitted by Ceri, Chris & Sam  from Birmingham  19/11/2015

For a month my husband , 10 yr old son and myself shared the kind of experience you remember for a lifetime.  Our plan was to find a space where we could work and play, cook, read, swim, discover Andalucia and reflect on life back home - and just relax.  We hit the jackpot at Casa Pequeña.  Patrick, Hector, Dino and Boris greeted us very warmly and showed us around the traditional  Spanish casita.  The charming little kitchen instantly became the heart of our holiday home, and was very well equipped, including giant paella pans.  The bedroom is just lovely, the traditional Spanish bed really comfortable with very nice feather duvet.  We particularly enjoyed opening the windows on either side each morning and letting sun, fresh air and birdsong bring us round gently.  The other favourite spot in the cottage is the roof terrace - views to the sea in one direction, to the magnificent mountains in the other.  Sunbeds, chairs and table, an incredible collection of cacti and potted plants - a perfect breakfast spot.   As lovely as the house is, however, Patrick's real triumph is the incredible garden he's created.  This is a truly magical maze of tropical plants, exotic climbers and trees studded with lemons, avocados, oranges, bananas and limes and here and there private little spaces with a bench or a hammock or a chess table, all of them lit at night, and all accompanied by the sound of running water from one of the many fountains or water features and heavy with the perfum of jasmine or fragipani.

We swam in the pool most days, right up until early November, and enjoyed the pool terrace complete with shady vines overhead, outdoor kitchen, honesty fridge and wifi.  It was all completely idyllic!  We enjoyed trips out to Granada, Salobreña, Nerja, Nerja caves (recommended), Calahonda, Lanjaron and Malaga (castle and Picasso museum).  Malaga was the furthest at 1hr 15mins.  The roads are excellent and largely empty which made driving a pleasure.  We also witnessed spectacular storms on a couple of nights which were really exciting, although these were freak storms apparently, so don't get your hopes up!  Otherwise the weather was just perfect for us and we swam and snorkelled in the sea as late as our last day, which was 6th November.  Shopping in Motril is great, and we enjoyed the non-touristy feel of the town.  The local fish is supurb.  Spanish bread was much better than expected (rivals French) and keeps well.  Cost of living in Motril is really cheap.   Back at the house Patrick was very easy going, was happy for our older children to visit and encouraged us to pick fruit and herbs for cooking (avocados to die for).  Sam fell in love with the dogs who love to check out newcomers, and although Chris and I aren't particularly dog people even we became fond of them.  We have come home refreshed, relaxed and recharged.  We would definitely return for another piece of Patrick's secret.

Owners reply:

Many thanks for taking the time to post your excellent and informative review.  Delighted that you all relaxed and enjoyed your month here in Casa Pequeña, loving the traditional accommodation, tranquil gardens and truly Spanish location.   Hope to welcome you all back in the future...

'Amazing place...'

We are an Australian retired couple and stayed here for 5 nights.  The place is an oasis, the gardens are just lovely.  Lush, cool and shady with so many places to sit and relax.  Lovely pool to cool off in.  Bar fridge also at the pool, for your use.  We stayed in the appartment; clean, roomy with everything you could need.  Wifi, TV, DVDs, books, it lacks nothing.  Comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, clean modern bathroom.  There are two roof terraces, which are fantastic for sitting and relaxing.  Patrick is a very relaxed friendly guy, who is always happy to help.  His three dogs are completely harmless and fun to have around.  There is off street parking.  It is not your normal common garden variety accommodation.  This really is something different and very special, really worth a visit.  We would love to return.    Thanks, Patrick

Many thanks for your 5 star Review for El Apartamento, very generous praise indeed.  Always delighted when travellers enjoy their time on the Costa Tropical, appreciating the properties unusual location and gardens.  Of course, welcome back anytime (many do return), but perhaps too far from Australia... also, well done for braving the swimming pool water during mid November!

We had a lovely time at Casa Pequeña.  The apartment was well equipped and it was great to receive a welcome pack on arrival. Patrick was both friendly and really helpful, he was full of local knowledge about where to go and what to see.  We went on a day trip to Granada which is only an hour away and would highly recommend.  The best part of the stay was the beautiful tropical gardens and swimming pool which really do feel like an oasis of calm after a busy day sightseeing.   Thanks very much Patrick for a wonderful stay.

The owner is lovely.  He and his very friendly dogs will greet you on arrival and show you around.  You are then free to help yourself, wander around the beautiful gardens and relax by the swimming pool or fire up the barbecue.  The bustling little town of Motril is only 1km away, with excellent beach at Salobreña just a stones throw further.

Owner reply:  Many thanks for taking the time to post your generous  5*Review.  Delighted that you enjoyed your short break in Casa Pequeña and managed to explore the local area.  Actually Motril is almost 3kms away, the newly opened highway must make it appear closer, easy 5 minute drive to bars, shops and restaurants now.  Looking forward to welcoming you back!

'A lovely relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings'

Exactly as advertised.  Lovely spacious apartment with all needs catered for.  Beautiful gardens and stunning pool area with outdoor kitchen and an honesty fridge.  This is our 4th visit and will not be our last.  It is a real home from home for us.  This is not a corporate let, it is a homely Spanish villa hidden amongst greenhouses.  True relaxation, with attractions a short drive away should you require stimulation.  We visited the Alhambra, Rio Chillar and spent a day in Malaga - which were all very enjoyable.   Will be booking for next year and may even take family with us!

Great stay!

We stayed for three weeks in Patrick's appartment near Motril and had a great time.  Well and complete furnished appartment with nice terraces surrounded by a beautiful and large garden with private swimming pool.  Appartment also has a good and complete kitchen with washing machine which is very handy for a longer stay.  The owner Patrick is very friendly and helpful, his dogs Dino, Hector and Boris are great company!   Motril is close by (great shopping and supermarkets), also Granada and Malaga within an hours reach by car, as well as the Alpujarras if you are looking for a more active vacation.  Great beaches near Calahonda, Salobreña, Almuñécar are also easy to reach.    I would definitely recommend this accommodation and Owner.

The best word to describe this property is... potential.  It could be a holiday haven.  The photos in the advert are so out of date.....the 'lush gardens' are now, in fact, a jungle!  The areas of the garden created for a relaxing siesta/chill out time are difficult to find in the overgrown bush and too unkempt to suit their purpose.   Once upon a time this may have been an ideal cottage away from the tourist trail but now, unfortunately, it is far from it.  The summer kitchen/barbecue area again was not fit to be used as such and the pool was not very inviting.....seemingly the dogs enjoyed the cooling water!  The general cleanliness of the whole place was poor.  The owner was very friendly and helpful when approached and his three dogs were no (real) trouble, but a lot of work/care and attention is needed to bring it up to the standard necessary to be rented out...

Owner reply:

Wow! 86 verified reviews (www.clickstay.com  ref 1499) for Casa Pequeña, more than practically any property in Andalucía and the first 2 star!  Suprised and rather disappointed in the untruths published, some clarification in order:

1) - The garden photos are recent (2014/15) and do not lie.  The lush sub-tropical gardens may indeed be described as a jungle, that is the design intent and has taken 25 years of planting, care and regular maintenance.  More of a gardeners garden, not a suburban or manicured space often found in more sterile holiday villas.

2) - The 2 barbeques are functional, all amenities listed in the property advert are present and fully working; Wi-Fi, multi-language television, DVD, dishwasher, washing machine, fountains etc.,

3) - The swimming pool is open 24/7 without restriction, illuminated at night (as is the whole garden) the dogs (nor myself) do not use, as was quickly pointed out on arrival when concerns were first raised.

4) - The property advert description is 100% accurate. Casa Pequeña has processed numerous successful bookings via this site Lorraine mentions (www.clickstay.com  formerly www.villarenters.com) and has one of the highest rankings on their site with more verified reviews than practically any other property in the whole of Spain!

5) - If anxious about Casa Pequeña, please contact me via my website or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/costaoasis) many recent photos. I can answer any queries and expain the reasons behind this negative review

'A nice place to stay on the Costa Tropical'

We stayed at the Casa Pequeña for 5 days and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The casita was clean, well appointed and tastefully decorated.  The garden is large, luxuriant, amazing, with a very nice pool and arbour at the other end (not visible from the casita).  There is a well stocked supermarket in Motril with fresh and local products, and everything one might need, 10 min away by car, in addition one can reach the nice seashore village of Salobreña in about 15 minutes.  Salobreña has nice beaches as well as good restaurants (try El Peñon at the end of the main beach for their excellent seafood).  We liked it even better than Nerja, which is nice but further away and more touristy.  Patrick was a very helpful and gracious host, and the dogs were friendly too.  We would come back any time.   5*****

We stayed at Patrick's place for 4 days and nights, double the time we had planned because it was just so relaxing and we didn't want to leave.  If you pick this place you won't be disappointed - such a lovely host and beautifully relaxing atmosphere to the place.  El Apartamento has everything you could need and really feels like a home away from home.  The kitchen was stocked with things like salt and oil, herbs etc....and some items the guests had left behind like onions, pasta, water and some beer.  Patrick provided us with a bottle of Prosecco to welcome us into the place - very nice too!  The dogs are very friendly but will only stay around you if you want them to (i.e - if you give them lots of attention they will happily stick around for more, but if you ignore them they will just wander off) - we loved the dogs, full of personality and very amusing at times.  The garden is filled with a whole array of plants and trees, it's really special, and clearly Patrick puts a lot of love and care into it's creation and upkeep.  There is a modest sized swimming pool and various areas to take the shade and relax with a book.  Plenty of water features around the place add to the relaxing atmosphere, birds chirping away too.  Patrick was a perfect host, helping us decide how to spend the rest of our days in Spain.  We added on a visit to Al Hambra and Generalife, Alpujarra mountains and Seville before flying home from Malaga.  There were plenty of leaflets in the flat for us to look at, maps and books, very helpful to have at hand, Wi-Fi signal was good and plenty of DVD's in the flat.  The roof was perfect for lounging in the sun and reading, which we happily did for 2 of the days we were there.  GPS coordinates helped us locate the place, as well as the tall Cyprus tree, otherwise we would never had found it as it is in an agricultural area outside of town, along a dirt track.  My advice is to take the GPS coordinates and keep an eye out for the tall tree.

'wonderful and relaxing stay'

What a wonderful place this is to relax, Casa Pequeña is a cute little house with everything in and on it.  It has a well supplied kitchen and a nice rooftop with a view of the sea and the mountains.  The house is in the middle of a big beautiful, richly grown almost fairy garden, with cozy spaces to sit,  nice flowerpots, trees, plants and a small swimming pool.  The owner, Patrick, is a very friendly Englishman.  He lives in a house next to Casa Pequeña with his three dogs.  He takes care of the garden with passion and great care and gives you all the privacy you like to enjoy the garden and your vacation, but is also very willing to help with all your questions, for example about the tourist sites in the neighbourhood or something you need around the house.  In the two weeks we were here we really grew fond of the three dogs, energetic Boris, happy Hector and the super friendly Dino.  Casa Pequeña lies a bit hidden in the midst of commercial greenhouses, which makes the direct surroundings quiet but not so attractive, but because of the beautifullness and the big size of the garden it was of no concern.  However, you do need a car, so that you can reach the beach with 10 minutes drive, or the close by city or the mountains.  There are lots of nice things to do within a short drive distance.  But we also just stayed a lot of the time at Casa Pequeña...we felt it was a little paradise.

'Tranquil'    Casa Pequeña is the most amazing place! If you love nature and dogs this is the place for you, my husband and myself stayed for 3 days, and we were made very welcome by Patrick and his dogs. There was a welcome pack on our arrival, everywhere was clean and cheerful, especially the beautiful gardens which you could spend all day in and still see different plants, and also listen to all the different creatures especially at night.  If it gets too hot, you can cool down in the pool and have your drinks in the poolside fridge, or even a poolside bbq, you don't really need to go anywhere else, but if you do it isn't far to go into Motril, where there is always something going off, we will def be going again...5*

Rustic & Private...

my husband and I stayed at the Casa Pequeña and it is a beautiful place to stay if you want peace and quiet, the only noise you hear are the sounds of nature, and the lovely fountains spread amongst the lovely gardens, and of course you need to love dogs as Patrick (the owner) has 3 lovely friendly dogs who meet you on arrival, where there is a lovely welcome package inside, along with the well looked after rooms and beautiful views from the roof terrace, there is also a poolside bbq and fridge if you fancy a dip in the pool on a hot Summer day. If you fancy a change the town and beach of Motril is only a short drive away where we had some delicious food, we will def be going again, thank you Patrick (and dogs) for making our stay memoriable.

Owner reply: Many thanks for taking the time to post your excellent reviews.  So pleased that you enjoyed your time at Costa Tropical Oasis and everything went smoothly, finding it both relaxing and tranquil.  The dogs always remember returnees, looking forward to seeing you both again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the little oasis that is Casa Pequeña.  Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the house was a quirky delight.  Patrick was a great host, stocking up the kitchen with essentials such as wine and beer before we arrived. Hector, Boris and Dino were super friendly.  Casa Pequeña is well located for a wide range of activities, nestled amongst the greenhouses for which the area is reknowned.  We spent a couple of days in Granada, a couple of days exploring the Sierra Nevada and a couple of days chilling on the roof garden of the house.  The beach was just a short drive away.           We would definitely recommend Casa Pequeña - 5 *

Patrick, thank you for your hospitality...

We had a great stay at Patrick's.  The garden is just amazing, full of flowers and little corners to rest and enjoy the view.  You can even pick your own fruit before breakfast!  The house has all the facilities and appliances you may need (even with two kids!), and it's located in a very quiet place.

Owner reply: So pleased that you found the gardens so relaxing and enjoyed time with the dogs.  Looking forward to welcoming you all back.

Rauhallinen ja upea puutarhamiljöö - calm and a magnificent garden setting

Meren rantaan on n. lomin ajomatka.  Talossa on kaksi vuokrattavaa huoneistoa, yläkerran huoneisto on moderni ja tilat yhdessä tassossa ja iso kattaterassi.  Toinen huoneisto on kahdessa olohuone yläkerrassa ja makuuhuone ja keittiö on alakerrassa ja keittiöön pitää mennä ulkokautta makuuhuoneesta ja lisäksi on kattoterassi.

Owner reply: Many thanks for taking the time to post your 'feedback', first in the Finnish language!  Unsure what it says, assuming good as you expressed a strong interest in returning next Winter. Boris will be delighted to welcome your dog Armi again, they did love playing in the gardens you enjoyed so much.

An unusual property with so many facilities, views and a relaxing ambience...

A very pretty green oasis situated amongst horticultural activities.  The facilities not only met our needs, but far exceeded our expectations.  Extensive views featured from the roof garden to mountains and coastline.  Clean and well maintained, the owner was very helpful, friendly and informative.  It was a pleasure to receive fresh oranges from the garden.  A very satisfactory relaxing stay, we would like to return!

Review submitted by Howard & Anne-marie from Montreal, Canada  14/03/2015

El Apartamento: My husband and I rented the apartment in Motril for the whole month of February 2015.  It is situated in an area surrounded by greenhouses.  The place has a beautiful garden, where we were able to pick oranges, lemons and avocados.  The welcoming committee composed of Dino, Boris and Hector, the three rescue dogs was great.  They were always there to greet us or say goodbye on a daily basis.  Nothing can replace unconditional love.  Patrick, the owner who lives on the premises, was not intrusive and always available in giving us any information about Motril or any other town we wanted to visit.  My only complaint was about the place itself, particularly the cleanliness.  It was dirty and dusty.  The bathroom was full of mildew around the grout between tiles.  The kitchen was well stocked in terms of pots, pans, cutlery, dishes etc...however, the back splash was dirty.  The sheets on the bed were clean, but the duvet cover was stained.  One of the couches was low on the ground making it awkward to sit on and the other was covered in dog hair.  I don't even know when the last time the place was fully vacuumed, the floor washed or the inside of the fridge cleaned!  When I mentioned it to Patrick, he apologised but his passion is for the well being of the garden and not the interior of the place.  Further, we experienced torrential rain one night and water was seeping through windows and we had water coming in the bathroom and kitchen, the front door did not have weather stripping, so the wind and dirt came in all the time, making the place dustier and cold.  It is quite unfortunate because this place could be a gem if one would attend to the interior as much as the exterior.

Owner reply: Firstly, thank you for your 'feedback' and apologies for any disappointment you experienced during your Winter month in El Apartamento. Unfortunatley, even on the Costa Tropical the weather can be fierce occasionally, the electrical storm and torrential rain resulting in some water seeping through two window frames. Remember Spanish country houses are rarely built to the high standards required in Canada where -35ºc can be experienced; here the design is to keep the sun out and comfortable for long hot Summers.  As usual, this Winter has been busy with back to back lettings, often resulting in just a few hours to turn around. Of course the apartment is always cleaned, vacuumed, floors mopped, fresh linen/towels etc., 3 sets of fresh linen are kept in the Ottoman chest in the bedroom for travellers who prefer to change their bedding regularly, including a spare duvet cover. So if a mark was found, this could easily have been rectified within  minutes. In addition, El Apartamento benefits from an automatic washing machine, iron, board and drying lines on the roof terrace.   The leather chesterfield sofa is designed to sit low and comfortable, the dogs are not allowed inside El Apartamento.  As to the fridge, it is always cleaned and a simple welcome pack popped inside, including cava. Another Canadian booking left that morning after 2 weeks (moving over to Casa Pequeña and holidaying together) and left some food and drink items in addition, intended as a nice welcome. In hindsight, I should have checked and thrown these items away!     At least the convenient location for touring, the lovely sub-tropical gardens and friendly dogs proved satisfactory.  Rest assured renters, in mid April there will be a gap in the booking calendar and a 'deep clean' will be organised, repairs/re-decoration done as necessary and inventory check.   El Apartamento remains a unique and comfortable base to explore Southern Andalucía and many travellers choose to return time and again...

Home from home...

Weather was what we expected, jeans/t shirt sometimes jumper for day time, blue sky for 5 days of our 7 day visit.  Patrick has created a lovely home from home.  Everything provided for a comfortable stay.  Enjoyed the company of the 3 dogs although a lot of barking during some of the nights speaking to other dogs in the area, not a problem for me, maybe for others.  Lots of lovely spots to sit in the garden.  Loved shopping in Lidls, cooked lots of fish dishes at apartment using fresh lemons from the tree in the garden, also avocado and oranges!  Hired a car and did local exploring, very cheap to eat at beach restaurant at Salobreña and in Motril.

Owner reply: so pleased that you enjoyed your time in Casa Pequeña and the January weather was mostly warm and sunny.  Apologies for the barking dogs on a couple of nights.  Hector my cocker spaniel likes to communicate with any barking stray dogs in the area after midnight.  Normally, he sleeps inside my farmhouse at night, but managed to escape a couple of times, I will keep a closer eye on him in future.  Living here full time, I don't notice the distant barkng coming from isolated fincas behind in the hills.  Most country houses in Spain have guard dogs, part of life here...normally the gardens are an oasis of peace and with few neighbours as many reviews suggest.  Yes, eating out is very reasonable being a Spanish area.  Still possible to find 'Menu del día' for less than 8€ in Motril, to include wine!  And of course free tapas in most bars...

Grönt och skönt - green and beautiful

Tropical

Fabulous gardens and apartment with plenty of outdoor patio areas.  There are many good beaches within 20 minutes drive.  Also spectacular mountain scenery within 30 minutes.  Motril is essentially Spanish and shopping and eating out is very cheap.  Patrick the owner has some very good recommendations.  On the negative side you need to drive to eat out.  We also found that in common with many places in Spain there is a slight problem with guard dogs howling.

Owner reply:   So pleased that you enjoyed your 3 week stay at El Apartamento.  Yes, the sub-tropical gardens are wonderfully private and relaxing, some travellers rarely leave them!  Motril is a perfect base from which to explore the nearby resort towns, but yes is very Spanish and English rarely heard.  Actually there are a couple of places to eat nearby in the village Puntalón, just a 10 minute stroll.  The local bar El Preciso serves Free tapas and a simple menu and the restaurant, Méson Puntalón too.  Although both serve mainly locals, the menu is authentic and not International cuisine.

Authentic Costa del Tropical secluded garden oasis!

Patrick offers a fantastic opportunity to get away from the tourist traps and the routine of everyday life, providing a tranquil and calming setting hidden away in the Costa del Tropical.   A warming welcome by Patrick and the dogs (Dino, Hector and Boris) to a very well established  garden, enclosing beautifully authentic Spanish villas.  We stayed in the smaller of the two available, perfect for a couple.   A well appointed kitchen offering everything one would need to self cater for a break, linked to a sitting room with views over the garden and out to the mountains in the distance.  Off from the sitting room you'll find the roof terrace providing a perfect place for sun bathing or enjoying a drink whilst the sun goes down.  The bedroom is furnished with what's needed and is typically what you'd expect in a Spanish property.  The decor of the entire villa is exactly what the mind conjures when thinking about Spain.   The gardens are extensive and offer many spots to sit and relax, we favoured breakfast in the morning outside to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.  A number of spots are also available outdoor cooking, including near the pool.   We visited restaurants and attractions locally, we very much enjoyed the food at La Barraca in Almuñécar and found wonderful tapas at La Trevelez in Motril.  We also happened to find La Flor de la Canela, which is an amazing ice cream parlour.  The Motril tourist website was very useful as were guides offered by Patrick on his website and in person.   We'd certainly recommend Casa Pequeña or the other cottage if you were wanting a little more space within the villa.

We very much look forward to a returning sometime in the future.  Many thanks Patrick - a superb holiday!

What a wonderful retreat

Casa Pequeña: it's really that good I feel like I don't want to tell anyone, so it can be kept a secret...but then not to share such tranquility and atmosphere would be an absolute shame.  A real nook of paradise on the Costa del Tropical -   not the regular Spanish tourist trap that's for sure!  Motril and the surrounding area was a delight.    Patrick you were the perfect host, attentive and discreet - we felt right at home and would very much like to return again in the future.  I think Cleo may well be asking to take Hector home with her though!  Although I'd be pretty certain Boris and Dino wouldn't be too far behind!!

A great hide-away!

We stayed in El Apartamento which was a delightful two-person apartment.  We were welcomed but left alone as much as we needed.  We had everything we could need.  Perhaps the only niggle which is really outside the owners control is the rather dusty approach to the property.  But we would recommend the property without reservation.  Check the local directions before travelling.  New roads are about to open which will significantly ease the journey by car - about 80 minutes from Malaga airport.

It had everything you could possibly need for your stay.  Lovely sun trap on the roof terrace.  As for the gardens, well they are truly amazing, with lots of lovely flowers and corners to explore.  The swimming pool at the end of the garden was just amazing, what a lovely area to just laze in the sun and cool off in the pool.  Patrick was a great host and was very helpful, and as for the dogs, Dino and Hector, they were great company.   We has a really relaxing, peaceful holiday here, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sanderson's "place to be"

Genoten daar, Volmondig  JA

Owner reply: many thanks Joop & Henny for taking the time to post your lovely Review. Pleased that you enjoyed your third stay here just as much, and looking forward to welcoming you both back next Summer for a month in the sun!

'Romantic guy with blue mind and pink heart'

Cool and lazy place. Plants...plants...and dogs:)  around plastic houses wit white powder dust.Patric is crasy romantic guy with blue mind and pink heart.  For tall people: I'm only 165cm and the bed was enough, but is really short Spain size...5*****

Owner reply: delighted you appreciated the ethos of the Casita and enjoyed pottering and helping with the numerous flowers and plants.  Yes, the bed is a standard Spanish double from the 19th Century (recent mattress though!) carved wood with footboard, so not ideal for very long people!  If well over 6 foot, perhaps choose my other rental home here, El Apartamento also listed with Tripadvisor with many positive reviews too.   The gardens are so lovely: with long balmy nights in Summer, occasionally travellers have been known to sleep outside under the starry skies on the roof!

'Peaceful base'

We were attracted to the property by the pics of the gardens which do not disappoint.  We stayed in the apartment which has a lovely roof terrace and secondary terrace with BBQ, the apartment itself had more than everything we needed.  Wi-Fi was very handy and is nicely decorated in a refreshing change to some clinical lets.  We used it as a base to get around and visit other parts of Granada as the motorway links are very good from Motril.  You definitely require a car as the village although walking distance doesn't have a shop.  Patrick was happy to help and talk to us when required. Would recommend for as a peaceful base or a complete retreat.  Thank you Patrick and the dogs!

Owner reply: Pleased that El Apartamento continues to be a beautiful and peaceful holiday base.  Many travellers staying here are seduced by the sub-tropical gardens, rarely found in the average holiday let.  The progress of the Mediterranean motorway continues: this Thursday 26/06/2014 another completed section opens from Almuñécar to Lobres. Considerably reducing the journey time from Málaga airport.  Even when the ultimate section opens next Summer 2015, the properties here will remain blissfully quiet.  El Apartamento (Cortijo Nuevo) is hidden away from all this new infrastructure - unlike many rival villas!

'Tranquil surroundings to get away from it all'

The aim of our stay was to go and chill for a short break. This was achieved from the moment Patrick opened the gates to his beautiful oasis.  Casa Pequeña is a beautiful mix of traditional (even if a bit quirky in it's lay out) build with modern facilities.  The casa is equipped with everything you need for a self catering stay and we recommend the luxury welcome pack on your arrival.  Patrick is very respectful of your privacy but also around if you need him.  The dogs are just lovely and friendly.  Hector took a liking to us and would often sit in the front room with us during siesta time.  Just wish we were sat by the pool with a chilled drink, letting time pass on by...Perfectly located for exploring the nearby areas of interest.  We spent most of the time in and around the gardens and casa private terrace.

Looking forward to a return visit - 5***** stay

Owner reply:  pleased that you enjoyed your short break here and thanks for your positive review. Yes, the luxury welcome pack is useful and good value (£50/60€), especially on late arrivals or Sundays when supermakets & shope are closed. Enough for a couple of meals (alcohol too), can be tailored to your requirements

'Original & individual vacation domicile in Motril'

'Patrick's Oasis'         First of all we arrived very early (2.15am), but Patrick was there to greet us and had even offered to meet us if we got lost.  The casa was clean and well maintained with it's own bit of garden and roof terrace.  Although the kitchen, bedroom and living room were all accessed separately this wasn't a problem.  All the rooms were well equipped.  Patrick's garden is wonderful, a suprise round every corner!  Lots of trees, plants, birds and croaking frogs with a pool and barbecue area at the bottom.  It was a good place to return to after a tiring day.  The casa is secluded but not isolated.  Patrick was very welcoming and friendly as were his 2 dogs.  He had left some provisions in the kitchen, so we could have a drink and a good breakfast without having to go out to find a shop after our late arrival.   I would recommend this property.  There is lots to explore in the surrounding area, including the town of Motril, the mountain villages as well as the coast.

Owner reply:    Delighted that you enjoyed your time here and found Casa Pequeña, my little holiday cottage to be a perfect base. Yes, the garden is an oasis of calm and always a refuge after a busy day sight-seeing or lazing on a nearby beach.  Romantic and magical after Midnight; enjoy lanterns, floral scents and during the hot Summer nights listen to the cicadas as well as the frogs!   Do visit again, many travellers do...

"What a Wonderful Place"

We spent a week at Casa Pequeña and it was a great time.  Patrick is a perfect host and Casa Pequeña is a beautiful finca.  We loved the magic garden, with the hangouts.  What a pity that time runs so fast! Recommended for a Romantic getaway.

"Maravilloso - Marvellous"

I rented the Patrick's apartment for a week. It was a great week that we enjoyed your house, garden and kindness. It has everything perfectly prepared to enjoy and do whatever it takes to help you have a perfect stay.  For example, as he showed us the house and grounds, he invited us for drink something cool in a cooler place of drinks you have in the garden for us to enjoy it.  Only say that the sofa bed matress is unsatisfactory, although it is logical that a sofa bed is not comfortble.   No doubt we will repeat in this house.  We have already recommended it to several friends.

Owner Reply:-  So pleased that you enjoyed your time here during Semana Santa: loving the location, accommodation, gardens and swimming pool.  Noted your concern about the sofabed mattress, apologies if sleeping was uncomfortable.  I will examine and test when the latest guests leave next month.   Looking forward to welcoming you back - for your return there will be a replacement matress.

We love Cortijo Nuevo: we had a fab month there in June this year and loved every minute, beautiful flowers in the garden, shade if it's too hot, swimming pool - all alight at night. Romantic, and to top it all the lovely Dino and Hector to play with our Great Danes: Merlin, Ziva and Moonbeam. The little house, quirky and lovely, we really had fun and will go back as soon as we can. I wish it was tomorrow! Patrick is a great host and there when you need him too.

"Relaxing, beautiful setting"

The place was a little paradise in a beautiful part of the World, with all the facilities and amenities that one would require.  Lots to explore, all within a short distance of the house and if you did not want to go far the house and grounds had enough to keep you occupied.   The owner was very accommodating and helpful.

"A real oasis, tropical gardens - hidden away"

We stayed in Casa Pequeña for four weeks. For us it was perfect, hidden away from everything, Moroccan style. The layout of the house was quirky, but suited us well and we felt we were always outdoors, with everything opening onto the patio and gardens. My daughter and I shared the bedroom and my son had the sofa-bed in the upstairs living room. The kitchen was well equipped and had a brand new oven. Nothing in the house was shining and spotless but the character of this oasis home made up for that! The kitchen did need some cleaning, but really only superficial. The many paths through the garden to the mosaic pool and trellised area beside made it magical. Patrick and the dogs live on site but although we saw the lovely, friendly Hector and Dino, we could go days without seeing Patrick, who was nevertheless always available, relaxed, friendly and full of information if we did need him.  The surrounding area was a bit of a mix - immediately around are the low greenhouses and then a rough road. The plus for us was that it was all Spanish, the local beach town and Motril seemed regular working towns, nothing touristy. The pretty white towns along the Costa Tropical were lovely and not too touristy either. One day in Costa del Sol, in Nerja - beautiful town but very Costa del Sol touristy and so glad to come back to our quiet house.  Easy drive to Granada, absolutely beautiful city. Stayed two nights in Alixares hotel, right next to Alhambra. Only negative points, which didn't bother us but might bother some, the immediate surroundings are not so beautiful, house not too spick and span and would have preferred a door rather than bead curtain between bedroom and toilet.  You can't just walk out to a cafe, so it depends what you are looking for, but as a hideaway oasis or a base for seeing Andalucia without living in a hive of tourists, wonderful.  Just to illustrate, although we went to the supermarket in Motril a few times, for the first two weeks we didn't leave the house and gardens. A rest cure, losing track of time. It was very hot during the day but so many shady trees and the pool meant it didn't matter. Evenings cool and refreshing, the pool was beautiful at night.  Patrick, Hector and Dino were all wonderful. I would definitely recommend this, but would make sure to be accurate about the surroundings. Useful having washing machine and roof terrace for drying.  Guests also in apartment but barely saw them.  After four weeks, we really do miss Patrick, Hector and Dino!

Sucht man etwas ruhiges, abgeschiedenes in strandnähe ist man hier richtig! Schönes stilechtes Häuschen, toller verwunschener großer Garten, top Dachterasse, gut ausgestattet (spülmaschine, waschmaschine, pool). Netter, hilfsbereiter vermieter.

We spent 3 weeks in the apartment in June 2013 and it was great.  Patrick is a very genuine host, available whenever you need him.  He told us to treat it as our home and we did.  The apartment has everything you need and more. The view from the roof terrace is lovely.  And the garden has to be seen to be believed, we loved it and we loved the resident dogs too!  There is plenty to see in the area but you could just spend the whole time there relaxing or take a dip in the pool.

We had a lovely time...

"Idyllic hideaway, perfect for a peaceful & relaxing break in the sun"

We really can't thank Patrick, Hector and Dino enough for our one week stay at Casa Pequeña!  We have just returned from our holiday, and suddenly our house doesn't seem nearly as nice as we previously thought, having just spent the week in the gorgeous casita, and supurb tropical gardens!  The quirky layout of the house, and traditional rustic decor, was exactly to our taste, and the kitchen had absolutely all the utensils/equipment you could need to make your supper, which could be eaten in any of the numerous dining areas in either the house, the terrace, or the garden/pool area.  The garden really is wonderful it can barely be described, but we thought it was reminiscent of fairy stories, with different pathways leading to seating areas or perhaps a BBQ, a hammock, or even the pool!  We even managed to make friends with a young local cat (we called him Chico)!

From our base we spent time in Motril (we had the beach entirely to ourselves, even on a glorious sunny day), and we also visited nearby Salobreña and also Granada, but there was plenty more to do!  Probably the only downside to Casa Pequeña (if you can call this a downside!), is that it is so beautiful, quiet and tranquil, that we were too busy relaxing by the pool or on the terrace to spend more time visiting anywhere!!

In summary, we have had a wonderful time and would recommend Casa Pequeña to anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and just relax in the sun!  Anywhere else we visit now can surely only be a disappointment in comparison!

Owner reply:-     Many thanks for your positive review. Always lovely to hear traveller feedback and that Casa Pequeña continues to be a super holiday base.  True, the local beaches are often deserted in October, despite the lovely sunshine, 27ºC today!   Anyway, I hope to welcome you both back in the future: Chico is still hiding from Dino & Hector in the gardens - plenty of secret places and trees to climb...

"so much better than we ever imagined!"

On arrival what a welcome, Patrick met us in his car in the early hours in Motril to guide us home, he has been an amazing host...nothing too much trouble...The luxury welcome pack is a must, it was fabulous, worth every cent!  The gardens at the Cortijo are amazing, the roof terrace views stunning, the climate fabulous...locally there is everything to appeal to tourists, Salobreña, Almuñécar etc.,lovely!  We fell in love with this place immediately and we will return, it's amazing, blazing sun on the terraces, great relaxing by the pool, super amenities close by, definitely been the most relaxing and best value holiday we have ever had.  Thank you Patrick, you have a fantastic holiday haven we would recommend to everyone.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to submit your excellent review. So pleased that you are enjoying your month in the sun!  Looking forward to welcoming you both back in the future.

Owner reply:-

As always, Casa Pequeña was prepared to it's usual high standard (as previous reviewers indicate) just that very morning the French couple arrived. A complimentary welcome pack in place, including fresh croissants, fruit and cava.  I have a successful and long history in hospitality (almost 12 years) and fully understand the requirements for a relaxing and stress-free holiday.  I cannot recall any other 2 star reviews for Casa Pequeña, 4 or 5 stars are the norm and many travellers return time and again.  The disappointment with the property location combined with travel fatigue, seem to be the main contributing factors that encouraged a negative mindset, resulting in this unbalanced review. Alongside problems with their French bulldog that had difficulty breathing in the heat - more on that later!

Most travellers (as opposed to tourists) staying here appreciate the real Spanish location: nearby Motril town with it's unique history, authentic tapas bars, independent shops and wide choice of sunny beaches. The neighbouring invernaderos (plastic greenhouses) are vital to the local economy of the area and found all along the Costa Tropical. I find them wonderfully quiet neighbours compared to villas and apartment blocks that scar many resort towns. Here the best of both Worlds, enjoy a tranquil location, yet just minutes from the hubbub of busy market town and coastal resorts.  This agricultural location is quite apparent when reading the property adverts and before booking via the internet, and my website even has a GoogleEarth map featured on it's Homepage. There should be no element of suprise with just a few minutes "research", everything to help make an informed choice is out there on the internet. Including dozens of more positive reviews on other websites that Casa Pequeña (Cortijo Nuevo) ranks highly on.

The significant reasons for posting this spurious review:

1) -  Problems with their "unsocialised" pedigree French bulldog which should never have been brought here!  I had to ask for it to be restrained due to it's agression and inability to mix with the two resident dogs here, Dino and Hector, both of whom have an excellent history with all dogs, guests and children.

2) - An unfortunate crime at La Caleta Playa (Salobreña), where their own car was broken into and valuables stolen from the passenger seat. Despite it being self-catering, I was only too willing to help with the Police, free telephone and laptop use - taking many hours. Not a word of thanks or appreciation and to compound their attitude, left after destroying an antique leather bedroom chair. Failing to tell me and hiding the seat damage under a pile of towels.

Not only were these travellers disappointed, so too was I with their negativity and questionable attitudes.  On reflection, perhaps best that they are unwilling to recommend to their friends - might share the same traits!

"been home for 2 weeks and I ache to go back"

Our 2nd holiday at Patricks and it won't be our last. For us it is like a home from home but with beautiful sunshine and an outdoor kitchen and music beside the pool.  Really missing Dino and Hector, bbq's by the pool, the roof terrace, gorgeous garden and it's delicious scent of an evening, views across the mountains, the shaded garden hammock, the fountains...Anyway, Patrick has two lovely resident dogs Dino and Hector.  If you like dogs, you will enjoy their company. If you are a keen gardener, you'll be in awe of Patrick's tropical oasis.  You do need a car if you stay here, but that's fine because it gives you the freedom to roam and explore at your leisure.  Motril (10 minutes car drive) is clean and a real Spanish town.  If you are looking for something a bit more touristy, then pop to Nerja for the day, it's about 40 minutes away.  We tended to drive to Salobreña if we wanted a day at the beach and to eat out.  Patrick is very discreet, he doesn't intrude yet manages to be around if you need to ask him something.  The facilities are good, kitchen has every utensil and all the white goods you need and there is plenty of linen and towels available.  Thank you Patrick 🙂

"A super relaxing stay in a little oasis - a great place to recharge your batteries!"

Initially difficulty in finding the location, mainly due to an out-of-date TomTom provided in the hire car.  Patrick was only too pleased to come and fetch us (from nearby) when we telephoned him!  Pleasantly surprised at the size of the apartment (quite spacious), with amenities which even included a dishwasher which we discovered three days into our week there!  Beautiful location - mountains all around - out of the typical tourist areas.  Patrick's love of greenery has resulted in a beautiful tropical garden with a fabulous secluded pool shared with occupants of his cottage (unfortuately the tiles around the pool are slippery when wet!).   Best of all was the peace and quiet, and seclusion.  The private rooftop terrace has beautiful views.

A real tropical oasis, in a real home:

Everything you need for a great holiday, long or short term.  Welcomed by the owner, and his two beautiful dogs Dino, and Hector, the atmosphere, at once is friendly, and light, with the added bonus of a tropical garden with every conceivable flower reminding us of a tropical oasis, add the fountains and swimming pool, and its not a wonder that we didn't do a lot of sight seeing, we were truly, happy with our dogs, and normally Hector too lazing around, and going out to eat in the many eateries of Motril, and surrounding villages, all with the freshest sea food and steaks and traditional Spanish tapas, a favourite with all. Ten minutes to Motril by car and you are in the heart of one of the most attractive towns that we have ever been in, lilac and yellow leaved trees sparkle through the rainbow of rushing water flowing through the many fountains around Motril, wishing we could dive in the water, but instead  drinking a café con leche, at a smart side walk pavement café, and watch all the people go about their business.  The only problem you must have a car, as being rural it is to far to walk from Casa Pequena to  Town/playa but we would not for have missed it anything, Plastic Hot houses adorn the area, and there in the mist of it all along a dry river bed is the magical oasis of Patricks Casa Pequena - small, fun and delicious, a paradise for our three Great Danes, who made great new doggie friends too, and as long as you like dogs you will have a delightful original holiday, Patricks dogs like ours are well behaved, but they are part of his life like ours and they make our holiday right, but not so if you are not comfortable around our furry people, if we could change anthing it would be a bit more comfortable indoor furniture, but for all that a month was not enough!  Patrick is a mind of info if you need his help, and we found him a super host, and unobtrusive, and a great bloke.  We really hope to meet again, soon as we can.

One week of Bliss:

Patrick was a wonderful host, very helpful with information regarding the local area. Being on our Honeymoon, all we wanted was a relaxing holiday and that is exactley what we got. Patrick provided a lovely welcome pack of food and drink to see us through until we had chance to stock up at the local supermarket.  The facilities at the property were fantastic and it felt like a home from home.  As first time travellers to Spain, we would recommend hiring a sat nav to make it easier to locate the property, especially if arriving at night.  The gardens are beautiful and the pool area was our favourite place to relax and unwind.  We enjoyed barbeques and swimming whilst listening to our favourite music on the ipod dock and sipping beverages chilled in the poolside fridge.  Patrick's dogs Hector and Dino made our stay even more enjoyable as we are dog owners and were lovable characters who we were sad to say goodbye to.  Overall we would definitely recommend a stay here if you are looking for a chilled out time in the Spanish sunshine.  We hope to return soon.

Patrick takes such good care of the gardens and exploring them is magical - the look especially pretty at night with lights and candles.  I highly recommend this place and it's an easy driving distance of Motril town.  My boyfriend and I will certainly be returning - thanks Patrick!

We have stayed at Cortijo Nuevo twice before and find it suits us very well. We like to be away from the hordes and like to be among the Spanish. Motril is a very nice, clean and busy town with meat and fish markets, also  two street markets a week. The coast not far with good fish restaurants, especially at the Port.  Salobreña an interesting and historic place, also Almuñécar 15 minutes away with Sunday flea market.  Granada an easy drive 3/4 hour away, scenic trip up the mountains.  Puntalón an area dominated by the horticultural industries, but not intensively. Yes, there are plastic greenhouses but they are only prominent from above and to us just a normal part of Spain.  The roof terrace is a wonderful place in which to "crash out", great views and perfect for G&T's, watching the sunset and maybe a ferry leaving the nearby Port.  We don't play, but one of the cheapest golf courses on the coast is at the nearby Motril Port.

Costa Tropical Oasis Cottage:  We stayed at Costa Tropical Oasis for 4 nights recently with our 2 dogs Rupert & Daisy. We were after a relaxing few days away where we could enjoy time with the dogs & explore the area easily. Upon arrival to the area, we were greeted by a sea of plastic growing houses used to produce fruit & vegetables, the main activity around Motril, which we knew about & Costa Tropical Oasis is set in the heart of it. Some people would think this odd, but to us it was fabulous not to be surrounded by high rise buildings. From Costa Tropical Oasis, you barely notice them. Patrick & the resident dogs Jerry, Dino & Hector made us feel extremely welcome immediately & the Casa Pequeña, whilst quirky in layout had absolutely everything you could need for a holiday & our dogs had a free run of the fabulous gardens, which for me was a real treat.  Patrick has put his heart & soul into Costa Tropical Oasis & it is stunning. We spent our days out & about visiting the nearby beaches & Alpujarras mountains, plus generally relaxing.  If you want a very relaxing holiday with a difference, Costa Tropical Oasis is a must & we will definitely be back 🙂

"A garden of Eden with a warm welcome"   Despite arriving in the wee hours the welcome from Patrick was lovely and was a great start to a wonderful holiday. The setting is stunning, the garden is lush with an abundance of fruit trees and flowers pouring fragrance into the air. Every turn in the winding path reveals another area to sit and relax. The accommodation was quirky but with a lovely relaxed homely feel and everything you need for a great self catering holiday. The kitchen was well equipped with good cooker, big fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. The bedroom was cool and charming, bathroom was a bit small but had a good shower. Views from the sun terrace were delightful with the fragrance from the flowers wafting on the breeze. The pool side outside kitchen was brilliant, set underneath the grape laden vine with a fridge full of cold drinks and a good quality Ipod dock, it was the perfect setting for a BBQ or chilling with a book.  Patrick provided a great little welcome food & drink pack which was ideal as we arrived on Sunday morning and the supermarkets were all closed. He had a great knack of appearing as if by magic when we required information like the shop keeper from Mr Benn. The dogs on the other hand are always around and we loved them, its hard not to. Jerry & Dino are huge but gentle giants who loved helping me BBQ and having a fuss, but I have to say the real star was Hector the cocker spaniel. Quite simply one of the loveliest dogs we have ever met. He never left our side, and helped me in particular relax.

A car is essential and a little Spanish would be useful as very little English is spoken in Motril. The town is lovely with good supermarkets a good outdoor market both full of fresh fruit and veg and stunning seafood, all very reasonable priced. What it doesn't have is a lot of old buildings as an earthquake destroyed the town many years ago. The villa was a great base with plenty of places to visit. We would definitely stay there again in the future.

"Relaxing romantic getaway..."     We were looking for a romantic getaway where we could escape city life. This is just what we were looking for. We spent many days just relaxing by the wonderful pool. We spent nights grilling on our terrace and looking at the stars. This was a perfect vacation for us because we were able to spend some days relaxing at the Cortijo Nuevo and also spent time travelling around the area of Granada, Sierra Nevada, Malaga and other small towns in the area. Patrick was very kind and helpful and I would recommend this place to friends and family.

Having read all the previous reviews for this property we were pretty convinced we wouldn't be disappointed when we got there and we weren't wrong! What a beautiful place, just delightful. Patrick was a perfect host and was there when we needed something but the rest of the time it was like we had the place to ourselves. Although the other apartment was rented at the same time we really felt secluded and barely saw the other couple. Th e kitchen had everything we needed and the welcome pack was well worth it especially seeing as the nearest shop was a 10 mins drive away and by the time we got there we just couldn't be bothered to go out again. The garden was stunning, cottage perfect for a couple (although the bed has a foot board so a little uncomfortable for a man of 6ft 4in!) with a private sun terrace which is actually where we spent most of our time.  You definitely needa car for this property but there are so many things to do locally that it's really worth getting out and about as well.  We loved every minute.

The dogs are fantastic (my partner really misses Hector - they bonded over a bbq one night) and very friendly. Often found sitting on a chair outside the kitchen window or lying on the kitchen floor. We love dogs ourselves so it was great but if anyone has issues with dogs then you might want to be wary as they aren't small!

We had a fantastic trip and will definitely be returning next year!  Thank you Patrick!

We stayed four nights at the end of what had been a very hot Summer. It is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay. Patrick is really friendly as are his dogs (and we think you really need to feel comfortable and 'at ease' with dogs to enjoy this place).  It is ideal for a couple although my daughter had the sofa bed in the sitting room that was as Patrick said a little bit of a push as the bathroom was just off the main bedroom. However, that certainly didn't negatively affect our stay. We loved to relax in the garden - refresh ourselves with a dip in the pool - which is at the bottom of a fabulous garden next to the Summer kitchen, which operates an honesty fridge - a lovely touch. Situated within the plastics, it really is a haven. You can walk along the dry river bed to the coast - near to Torrenueva - takes about 30-40 mins or cycle...great coastline.  Very enjoyable and we would certainly recommend it.

Magical

Had a wonderful week at Casa Pequeña, the garden is like a tropical oasis and the pool is great.  The cottage is quaint and comfortable for two people. Patrick could not be more helpful, although not intrusive.  The three dogs are very friendly, in fact if you don't want Hector the little one jumping on your bed keep the bottom half of the stable door shut.

We will certainly go back again sometime.

My husband, our 2-year old and myself stayed at El Apartamento for 8 days in July 2012.  Upon our arrival late at night it was really nice that the fridge was filled with water, juice and milk, and bread, fruit, sausage and cheese was there for us to enjoy.  And champagne!  What a nice and thoughtful service by Mr Patrick Sanderson, whom we found very nice - an English gentleman in the midst of Spain.

The garden surrounding the apartment is an oasis with small enjoyable sceneries with fountains and figures.  The pool is perfect for a family with small children, our son had great joy with it.  And when our son was sound a sleep in the baby cot available in the apartment, we sat on the roof patio with candles, a buddha fountain and mojitos.  Very very nice.  The location is somewhat secluded, so a car is necessary, but once you know the area, there is short drives to beaches and towns.  During our stay we visited alhambra and Granada, the cave, Malaga, Almunieca and the Sierra Nevada and white villages.

Patrick oh dear. VOORTREFFELIJK

We had a lovely week here in Casa Pequeña, very relaxing and enjoyable. Will certainly recommend to friends, keep well...

Casa Pequeña was a magical experience for me and my husband who were both greatly in need of a rest. The villa is quirky which I loved and has every single thing you could need. Dining on the sun terrace in the garden is great as the different perfumes of the flowers drift by! There is something new to note each day in the beautiful, mature garden. Patrick is a gentleman in every sense of the word and clearly at one with nature and his wonderful dogs: Hector, the rogue; Dino the loveable rescue dog and Gerry, the 'grandaddy' of them all! We divided our time between the villa and touring the area which has much to offer. I would love to return with more of my family in the future where I could keep them at a 'comfortable' distance from me in the appartment!  I thoroughly recommend this little jewel on the south coast of Spain!

Owner Reply :-

Casa Pequeña, a lovely rustic Cortijo with a quirky layout, which we loved.  The kitchen has everything you need, a real home from home.  Patrick the owner supplies the best starter pack I have ever seen, well thought out.  The pool and garden areas are beautiful, its lovely to relax in amongst the lush surroundings.  There is an honesty fridge at the pool, which you replenish before you leave, a nice touch.  Patrick is always there when you need him, but is never obtrusive, he is extremely knowledgeable and can tell you all the best places to visit..We will definitely return and would highly recommend.

"Patrick's Hideaway"

A very pleasant haven in the midst of a tomato growing area with plastic greenhouses.  Wonderful natural gardens alive with birds and butterflies and plenty of places to sit out.  Picked avocados and oranges off the trees!  Roof terrace with views over mountains, the harbour and sea in the distance - comfortable loungers.  Very comfortable beds with duvets.  The dishwasher was a huge bonus.  Car essential, we had many picnics in the mountains, the roads were excellent.  We ate in all the time.  Thanks to Patrick who was around, but never intrusive and helpful when needed.

The worst part of the stay was having to leave.

We're just (Feb 2012) back from a week of chilling by the pool, experiencing the colours and scents from the garden and taking in views from the roof terrace and can't wait to go back.

We enjoyed the facilities so much we didn't explore many of the interesting places that are right on the doorstep.

If you enjoy relaxing or want a decent point to explore the area, you'll struggle to find anywhere better.

We stayed at the El Apartamento August 2011.  After spending 8 busy days in Arcos de la Fronterra visiting that area.  We were looking for somewhere relaxing to finish our holiday and we hoped that Cortijo Nuevo would be that place, but never dreamed that it would be the wonderfully relaxing oasis that it is.  We visited Granada and The Alhambra, somewhere that we had always wanted to visit and were not disappointed, well worth the trip.  We had it in mind to try several beaches along the coast but found the call of the garden and the pool, too much to resist. Spending more quality time together, relaxing around the pool and taking in the beautiful garden and having simple meals on the rooftop balcony.  Patrick was a superb host, always in the background if we needed anything.  Miriam particularly enjoyed having the dogs to pet.  Motril was ideal to pop into for shopping, bars and cafés, we found everyone to be friendly and accommodating.  We would recommend El Apartamento if you are looking for a tranquil oasis away from the crowds.

6 weeks in December/January to escape the Dutch Winter for a while.. Stayed with my 3 dogs who enjoyed the warmth and big garden.  Jerry the owners dog is a gentle giant who loves to be cuddled.  The garden is stunning even in Winter.  Patrick the owner is very friendly and helpful.  The apartment was very pretty (lovely decorated) and has everything you need (TV with countless channels, WIFI,  Ipod docking station, HIFI etc etc.)  What can I say - it was one the best holidays ever!

BRILLIANT TIME - SO RELAXING....

I took my wife to Casa Pequeña for her birthday present and we loved it.  The location was isolated and peaceful, perfect for that relaxing holiday we wanted.  You had to share the pool which we didn't mind as there are only two apartments anyway and the couple we were sharing with liked to go out, leaving us the pool everyday to ourselves.  Patrick and the dogs are not intrusive except when BBQ time.  You have your own very handy shops only a short drive away, very friendly and can understand all you are saying easily.  I could write a novel about what I liked about this place, let's just say PERFECT.

PS - if like me you have reservations about driving abroad don't, it was a straight road.  I hired a satnav, waste of money - Patrick's directions are spot-on, except the dirt road next to the riverbed.

GOOD AS EVER.  After staying at the Casita last year we tried El Apartamento this time and didn't regret it.  Rooms are nice and bright in the Winter time.  The bed very comfortable and the flat just really well equipped, be it radio/hi-fi/television or book or in the kitchen.  We did have a few problems with the Wi-Fi, but Patrick the owner does what he's really good: seeking a solution, asking how we are faring, putting lights on so we find our way home late at night. That's just a very comforting thing.  We hope very much to be able to come again.

Owner reply:-  Katrin, many thanks for your 'feedback' - so pleased that you both enjoyed your stay here at Cortijo Nuevo again.  Apologies for the intermittent wi-fi signal, Router has now been replaced by telefonica for a better model (after recent electrical storm) wi-fi signal seems stronger and more coverage than before.  Ready for next working trip - looking forward to welcoming you back in the future - remember 10% DISCOUNT off any tariff for returning travellers.

Just spent 2 weeks in the Apartamento and would love to  stay there forever.  It became a home right away...all the bases covered.  The rooftop was great for evening dinners while watching the sunset over the harbour and mountains, the patio was equally great for morning coffee.  Motril is well placed to visit many attractions in Andalucia.  Loved the garden.  Thanks Patrick for a great stay...it was fun getting to know you, Ben & Jerry.

This was our first holiday to mainland Spain.  We didn't want to be surrounded by other British holiday-makers, we wanted to experience Spanish life. We couldn't have gotten more lucky when we booked Casa Pequeña.  A true Spanish cottage, with everything you could possibly need during your stay.  The cooking/cleaning facilities were superb.  Our bed was probably the most comfy we have ever slept in.  The (totally) private roof terrace was fabulous for sun worshipping.  The pool area, with it's outside kitchen is beautiful by day and magical by night.  The garden is amazing.  Full of different seating areas and beautiful plants, of a night you become surrounded by a gorgeous floral scent.  Patrick has created the perfect relaxing retreat.  Apart from popping out for supplies, we went to Mini Hollywood just outside Almeria, Marbella, Salobreña, La Herradura and Motril.  We did plan to go to Granada, Sierra Nevada and Alhambra, but the draw of the sun terrace, outdoor kitchen, garden and pool was just too much!

We will be returning in 2012.

It was a wonderful and relaxing stay.  The garden is beautiful and peaceful.  We were very comfortable in the house.  Nice bed, full kitchen with all the supplies you need.  It was a home away from home feeling.  It is close enough to explore other areas on small day trips.  Close to beach towns and at the foot of the mountains.  A nice place to relax and get away from all the noise.

Wonderful oasis of peace and tranquility in a wonderful part of Spain. The owner was charming, helpful and kind without being intrusive. The garden is a botanical marvel combined with a refuge for flower lovers.
On the roof of the apartemento where we stayed for 3 weeks, we would take most of our meals looking at one side at the sea and on the other at the mountains.
The weather was wonderful and the apartemento offered us shade when needed and the always welcomed peace that we were looking for. Everything we needed was there at hand, in the kitchen or anywhere in the apartamento.
The wonderful fragrances from the garden at night were intoxicating and are still lingering in our minds.
It goes without saying that we experienced a thermal shock back in Canada and wished that we had stayed longer in this small paradise.

OASIS ENCHANTING. The Casa Pequeña took us, my partner and 5 year old son, to a 24 hour 7 days a week experience of other realms: opening any window or door the fragrancies of the most overwhelming beautifull tropical flowers, trees and herbs embraced us. Sending us rays of harmony, peace and purity and true gifts of nature. The many seats were placed very well so that togetherness, play as well as privacy were easily woven into one movement. The many fountains gave a very cheerfull sound. Patrick the owner makes you live in harmony with nature, makes it possible to experience, as opposite to the harsh stressed human power-over-nature and animals society. For us it was paradise! Thank you Patrick! The house was genuinely Spanish, different than we were used to and very romantic. The kitchen was a joy to cook and the roof terrace gave beautifull views.

OASE IN COSTA TROPICAL.

PERFECT SPANISH COUNTRY GETAWAY. First of all, I never felt more welcome in a rental ever before...it was so well thought out, everything was there, music, eclectic books and dvds...milk bread something to eat to drink, to clean plenty of sheets towels, A romantic sleeping room, with by the way great matrasses, a charming living room where you felt at home right away...,And what I most of all apreciate was the charming atmosphere in the beautifull garden, where you could hide in the shadow under a banana tree or stare at the beauty of colours of so many different plants and flower trees, enlightened in the evening by lanters and the moon. Every place had his own special touch, like the swimming pool where you could see the special handwork of designed tiles from an artist, that has her shop in a little village in the mountains nearby.. We sat on the roof to see the sunset and the stars at night, or in the early morning to see the sun come up, and have breakfast, to make plans for the day...the owner gives you all the privacy you need as you roam the property from one fountained niche to the next...a perfect little country getaway for those who want to avoid the big tourism but still be near the ocean..oour only regret is that we couldnt stay longer...And yes, we will definetely return!

Cortijo Nuevo hält alles, was die Bilder versprechen.

LOVELY RELAXING BREAK - QUIET RUSTIC COTTAGE IN AMAZING GROUNDS. My partner & I travelled to Casa Pequeña in July. We flew into Malaga & hired a rental car which is absolutely essential. Journey from the airport is about 1 hour 30 mins. The property is described as a Casita (small house) & is adjacent to the main building, the ground floor of which houses the owner, Patrick. Above this is an apartment which is also available for rentals. My initial concerns about the proximity of the main house were unfounded - Patrick is very respectful of your privacy & keeps out of the way. More than that he is a very likeable person and is a very useful source of information. Despite the time of year and lack of air conditioning we found the casita cool as there is a refreshing breeze blowing most days. The casita is slightly unusual in its layout with the bedroom and en-suite bathroom having a separate entrance to the kitchen, living area & balcony, but this adds a certain character. The bedroom is a decent size although the bed felt quite short for me (Im 62") & shower area was also quite cramped. The kitchen is very well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, toaster & plenty of pots, pans & cooking utensils, even a garlic press & cookbook. The same is true of the living room - there are books, cards & games along with Sky TV. Theres so much that its almost like staying in a friends house (there were skewers for the BBQ). There are two dogs of Patricks which were lovely & friendly but might prove a bit energetic if youre not a fan. Although that might be because we made a big fuss of them! The gardens are absolutely amazing, like staying in the middle of Kew Gardens. There are plenty of quiet areas with various benches/chairs & tables for variety. The pool is a decent size for the size if property, there is an honesty fridge & another BBQ & cooking area, i-pod dock and lighting which makes it a lovely area to spend the day and evening. Would definitely recommend to couples after a relaxing break.

We enjoyed a fantastic visit at Cortijo Nuevo which is far and away the best place to experience in the Motril region! The apartment is very comfortable, exquisitely decorated and Patrick gave us and our two children a thoughtful welcome. We were like any other guest dazzled by the harmony of the garden. A true haven of peace... and of daily little finds. The property is surrounded by Andalusian greenhouses. As Parisians snapped up by the hustle and bustle of life all year long, we thouroughly enjoyed the pleasure and the peace of sharing the field with vegetal neighbours! We wish we could spend some more tome at Cortijo Nuevo. We will definitely be back!

Excellent holiday apartment has everything and more, no problems. A word about the garden - EXCEPTIONAL - a rare gem in Andalucia. So many different species of plants, (more than many garden centres!) interesting design with many patios, pathways and lovely calming atmosphere. All created and lovingly tended by Patrick the English resident owner. Definitely a place to return to time and again.

The line in any property summary the owner lives next door is a line most of us would run a mile from. The thought of Basil Faulty leering over the wall reminding you not to mention the war or wringing his hands as he smiles through gritted teeth at having to put up with the riff raff sends a shiver down the spine of anyone looking to get away from it all for a while. Well, as you have decided to read the reviews because as with us a little something caught your imagination, carry on and read them all. They certainly convinced us that CASA PEQUEÑA was worth the punt (which all unknown holiday accommodation is) as we found as others before us a mini oasis without a John Cleese impersonator in sight. As the name suggests it is a small house and for those of you who remember the Mortgage advert (when mortgages were still advertised) by the redoubtable comedy duo which was Fry and Laurie it is certainly ‘compact and bijou’ but it does exactly what it says on the tin. The facilities were exactly as had been reviewed by others and if you are as lucky as we were (and every other reviewer seems to have been) you simply won’t know anybody is sharing your retreat. We only saw the couple who were occupying the apartment once in the week we were there. The lovely Patrick was just that. He was welcoming without giving you that ‘can we be new best friends’ kind of feel and at the same time succinct without being ‘I live here don’t you know darling’ patronising. We immediately felt at ease and without consciously trying seemed to somehow know where everything was. He also possessed the subtle skill (which all decent Maitre D’s instinctively have) in that he was only there when we wanted him to be, I mean we saw him twice in a week until his name was uttered and he mysteriously appeared with his wonderfully kind demeanour only too happy to help. The only detraction for us was my partner’s fear of dogs. It due to this fear and this fear alone that we will not (unfortunately) be returning. Not that they were intrusive or off putting or even apparent most of the time as we rarely saw them. If you do not have a heart stopping fear of our canine friends this will not be an issue for you, it wasn’t for me just my good lady. In summary, if you are looking for gold plated five star bling then (I am surprised you have continued this far) this is not the place for you, stop now don’t even think about it, there are innumerable villas up and down the coast far better suited to your requirements. However, if like us you are looking for quiet cottage style accommodation in a secluded location to while away lazy days and loose yourself for a while then you might just have found it!

We enjoyed a very tranquil week in Patricks Garden of Eden. Obviously with his name he could banish the snakes. Floating in or on the pool was really therapeutic as was reclining in a shady niche with a selec tion from the house library. The dogs Ben and Jerry are the most gentle and unobtrusive of companions and add to the character of the establishment. The first floor apartment is very handsomely furbished with the best of appliances and utensils, luxurious sitting room and most restful bedroom, first class bathroom, good water pressure, fast water heat-up. A unique site to visit is the Museo Azucar in Motril with working installations of sugar mills, presses and boiling vessels, a clear history of the development and decline of the industry of which Motril was the centre. There is a wide choice of cafe-bars and restaurants in the area and a great variety of outings to be had from the extensive beaches to the magical Alpujarras with the mark of Arabic culture still evident in the mountain pueblos after five centuries.

Patrick has set up a wonderful cottage. It is ideal for couples. My wife and I thought that the landscape and gardening was breathtaking and the views from the cottage rooftop and balcony are amazing. It is close to Granada and activities in the mountains. We went horseback trekking one day in Sierra Nevada and also did a Paella cooking class in nearby Torox. Spent a day on the beach relaxing and poolside as well. The pictures posted by Patrick do not lie.

Wow. What a find! An oasis of peace & beauty away from the tourist hoards, yet with everything youd need from a holiday on the doorstep. Laid-back owner & dogs add to the restful atmosphere, a private sun terrace very much appreciated, extensive gardens full of interesting nooks & crannies, with all mod-cons yet with a rustic, authentic farmhouse feel. Less than an hours drive from Granada & its must-see Alhambra, & the spa villages of Las Alpujarras (where Chris Stewart lives & wrote Driving Over Lemons etc), 5 mins drive to the beach (although with a swimming pool we didnt actually feel the need), just outside Motril, a bustling market town on the coast, with fresh local produce twice a week. All within an easy drive from Malaga airport. What more can we say? A hidden gem.

We stayed for a, too short, week in the cottage. It was rustic and had everything we needed, both in kitchen and the other areas. It was very peaceful and serene, allowing us to relax and still be able to access nearby Motril, Granada and the Sierra Nevadas. The gardens were lovely as was the pool area and the "honesty" fridge was a great touch. The owner, Patrick, was very helpful although not at all intrusive. Ben and Jerry, his dogs, were just the same! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and plan to return later in the year for another relaxing time doing just what we felt like on each day.

El Apartamento is comfortable, roomy and very well equipped to be your home-from-home. The secluded gardens and poolside terrace with barbecue facilities and well-stocked fridge provide a peaceful area to relax although we did not use the pool as our visit was too early in the year. The excellent rooftop terrace provides uninterrupted 360 degree views. Arriving guests need to be aware that the access from the main Motril-Puntalon road is via an unsurfaced track and that the property is surrounded by plastic-roofed greenhouses. We very quickly came to terms with this and it did not detract from our enjoyment of the holiday. Patrick, the owner, is always on hand if you need help or advice but he will not intrude unnecessarily. Motril/Puntalon are working Spanish communities and you will not be in "Blackpool in the sun". A few words of Spanish will be helpful in the local shops and bars. The beach resorts to the east (Torrenueva 10 mins, Calahonda 20 mins, Castell de Ferro 30 mins) are mainly used by Spanish holidaymakers. As you travel west (Salobrena 20 mins, Almunecar 30 mins, Nerja 40 mins) the resorts become increasingly international. Granada and the mountain villages of Las Alpujarras can be reached by car in less than 1 hour and the ski slopes of Sierra Nevada in less than 2 hours. Almeria and the scenic Cabo de Gata area are also accessible inside 2 hours.

Casa Pequeña is a rustic, Spanish style holiday cottage which contains everything you need to have a quiet and relaxing stay, and this is exactly what we wanted from our holiday. Patrick, the owner is very welcoming and friendly and very helpful. On our first day we asked Patrick if he would show us where the local amenities were, and he was very happy to drive around the area with us and point out the shops, restaurants and sites we would find of interest. This set us up perfectly for our stay. Ben and Jerry the two dogs are very friendly, but can easily be shut out of the garden if you dont want them around. The view from the roof terrace is great, and a lovely place to sit and soak up the sun, reading a book or just looking out over the mountains or the sea. We came back feeling wed definitely relaxed, and got into the Spanish way of living. Initially we seemed to always be out and about at siesta time, between 2 and 5pm, but eventually we got into the swing of it all! We really enjoyed visiting Salobreña, Almuñécar, Nerja and Granada, while we were there - all which are within easy driving range. The Nerja caves are not to be missed. A lovely, relaxed and enjoyable stay.

"This is Paradise" - Cortijo Nuevo.
Set between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean, the Cortijo's 2 spaces are authentically and tastefully decorated in classic Andalucian style, yet filled with modern amenities. The garden is literally paradise, and we spent almost all of our time in it. In the evening we would cook outside and sit under an avocado tree, drinking vino tinto, visiting with Patrick our host, the dogs lazing at our feet. Patrick made us feel welcome and at home at once, with a generous welcome package in the kitchen, useful advice and a good sense of humour. A place for travellers rather than tourists Motril is an unspoiled Andalucian town with a deep and fascinating history, friendly residents, good restaurants and nightlife. Day trips to Salobreña, Las Alpujarras, Almeria and Almuñecar are easy and worthwhile, especially returing to the beauty and hospitality of the Cortijo Nuevo.
We have travelled all the way from Canada twice, and intend to take our entire family back next year. Consider yourself blessed to get a reservation - 5* stay.

The place was very lovely to relax, even though we were unlucky with the weather. The owner was intent on making us feel comfortable. Its perhaps unusal that you can only access the bedroom from outside as described, but as I always enjoy being outside very much, I thought this added to the flair of the little house. The wifi worked perfectly, the kitchen was very well equipped, the washing maschine and dishwasher in very good condition. The welcome package with coffe wine etc was the best I have had so far in any holiday bokings. Thank you, Patrick, we hope to be able to come back!

We recently enjoyed an 8 day break at El Apartamento, if leave would have permitted we would love to have stayed longer. We wanted a relaxed holiday, but with a special feel as we celebrated our anniversary and birthday whilst at the apartment. We read lots of reviews before booking and we certainly made the right choice. Patrick was really helpful before and during our stay. Hes created a really welcoming and relaxed atmosphere which is worth 5 stars! Apart from enjoying chatting with Patrick we loved the bonus of spending some time with his dogs, Ben & Jerry! Our favourite times at the apartment were on the private roof terrace which has a lovely breeze and stunning views. Remember to use lots of tealight candals, the summer kitchen and terraces look fab in the evenings, all lit up. Getting around the area was easy with a car, and we enjoyed a trip up into the mountains and visited a few local seaside towns. We found the area was really good value for quality food and drink. Looking forward to a return trip!

We had a great relaxed vacation in El Apartamento in October 2010. The house exeeded our expectations: the style of the furniture is warm and positive, the technical equipment great and the garden very nice with lots of small niches and flowers everywhere. We really felt at home during our stay and enjoyed our private terraces. The kitchen needed some cleaning when we moved in and there was also some dust cleaning necessary - but we did not mind. The situation in between green houses is not great, but also not really disturbing. Just one hour drive to Granada is great. Patrick is a friendly and quiet host - and helpful when needed. I already recommended it to friends of mine and we would also come back for a next holiday, if we wanted just to relax.

We had a fantastic stay! It was just what we needed. The location is ideal in terms of being able to access the south coast as well as make the most of being able to see the sights that are on offer in Granada as well as the Sierra Nevada. Patrick has created a real hideaway and it is beautiful to wake up to the garden that he has created as well as be able to have a BBQ and watch the sun set in the evenings. As so many have said before he is there if you need questions answered but otherwise you are left very much to yourself to enjoy your holiday. We would definitely think about returning. Thank you so much for the peace and quiet you have created and the time and space away from it all!

'PARADISE FOUND' -
El Apartamento, an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of life, even a delayed return to the UK because of the volcano could not spoil our enjoyment. In fact Patrick the owner went out of his way to help us, with free use of both computer and telephone to help us resolve our problem.
The garden is an eclectic joy of flowers, shrubs and trees wherever you look. The swimming pool area is an absolute delight, with everything you could need for a barbaque, even an honesty fridge should you run out of vino collapso.
The apartment is extremely well equipped and spacious, the kitchen has all you need and more to survive if you choose to self-cater.
Torrenueva, the nearest village has plenty of mini-markets, very good bakeries and tavernas nearby Motril though a working town, has plenty of suprise in it's back streets and Excellent supermarkets.
Salobreña is a pueblo blanco with it's Moorish castle dominating the town and whitewashed houses clambering up the hillside.

All in all, if you want the real Spain, warts and all and you are willing to look, then Cortijo Nuevo is the place for you, if you want a Symbaritic lifestyle then look elsewhere.
If you can find a more caring and attentive landlord, who is there only when you need him, but slides into the background at all other times, then please let me know.
Eric & Jan, Cheltenham, Glos. - 5* stay.

'A Wonderful homeaway from home, surrounded by beautiful gardens!'

Our family had an Excellent stay with Patrick, his Dad and our most loved Ben & Jerry. Patrick's home is much envied by us, we had beautiful gardens, a lovely pool and our accommodations were absolutely more than what we expected. Patrick had a wonderful food package ready when we arrived and for my husband and two sons our sleeping arrangements were perfect. Patrick is one of the nicest hosts you could ever have and was very helpful with directions and explaining different cultural things. Ben and Jerry are the best mannered fella's we have ever seen and we really enjoyed spending time with them.
We would recommend this vacation home to anybody it is not hard to fall in love with it's own beautiful setting and of course my favorite add on is Ben & Jerry.

A very lovely escape from the chaos of modern life. Apart from the beautiful house and gardens with their constantly surprising nooks and niches and hideaways there was an unbelievable welcome package of wine, more wine, eggs, chorizo, cheese, croissants and more. On hand were jazz cds, a fine collection of dvds and satelitte tv (should one be that way inclined or the weather disappointing!). Patrick was a friendly and helpful host who was equally happy to supply local info and allow us space to relax during our 10 day stay. Our two year-old son loved the pool and swam almost every day. Recommended.

The house and everuthing in it was dirty. Old furniture, used by the dogs of the owner. De dogs walked in- and out as they please. The bed was very uncomforteble, almost laying on the ground, so i had to sleep in our camper. Swimmingpool was dirty and full of chlorine. The casa is in the middele of industrial terretory and very unsafe. Weve left a few days urlyer, did not get a refund! Never, never again! Our holiday is partly ruines by this!

Owner reply:
This malicious review barely warrants a dignified reply!
However, due to ALL the false statements, a rebuttal is required.
Perhaps, on reflexion it may be wiser to contact me (Patrick) via Villarenters.com or telephone me direct - for an accurate take on the situation. Suffice to say, Peter the Reviewer was known to me as Caroline during the rental and on departure 2 days early.
I concur, Never, never again!
Travellers with this mindset are not welcomed back to Cortijo Nuevo.

It was quaint, quirky, quiet and peaceful. We were free to wander the garden as we pleased. We had a private roof balcony givings us a perfect view of the beautifully established gardens. The cottage had everything we needed to be self sufficient, relax and unwind. Close enough to the nearest town to make provision shopping easy and far enough away to feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. Our welcome was excellent despite the unsociable hour. Lovely drive to the Sierra Mountains and Granada. It was exactly what we hoped it would be and more. We will definitely be returning.

The description on the website didnt do this little gem justice. Ideally situated, close to Motril with all that brings (supermarket etc) but also hidden away in the greanery of Puntalon. It is also close to the motor-way network that will take you to Granada and beyond. During our stay we took time to recharged- spent a few days around the pool enjoying the comforts of the villa, swimming pool, well stocked fridge by the BBQ area. Once we were energised we took a trip to the Alhambra Palace (pre-booking this is a MUST). We took a trip into Granada and the Caves at Nerja. We also took a trip into the mountians for a day. EXCELLENT. Patrick was a perfect host, very knowledgeable and although very welcoming and friendly he gave us time to just be by ourselves (as did the other couple who had use of the other villa). One tip though would be to make sure that you take a phrase book with you as you cannot expect to hear/read English all the time.

My family and I spent a week in early September in Cortijo Nuevos Apartamento. Its garden is lush and aromatic, and we used daily the small swimming pool (our young daughter loved it particularly). The apartment is fully provisioned and operational and the nights on the deck above it are fantastic. Patrick is a pleasant, easy going host, and the dogs are friendly and well behaved. I think it is a very nice place to spend a few days near Motril (provided you have a car), and excellent value too! Although the other lodging was occupied during most of our stay we never interacted with the other guests nor with Patrick and his family because all the units have private areas that are completely independent.

This place was an absolute oasis. We wanted a place to really relax, be on our own and get away from it all, and this was the perfect spot for it. Lush gardens, private pool (shared with one other apartment), plenty of places to relax in sun or shade, cozy accomodation, lots of thoughtful extras that made this place really special. We cooked a lot and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. Made use of of the herbs growing in the garden. There is one other apartment sharing the grounds. The owner, Patrick, lives in the adjoining house, was incredibly helpful when we needed him, but otherwise was very unobtrusive and we mostly felt like we had the place completely to ourselves. We hope to be back!

Recently spent 10 days at Casa Pequeña and had an excellent time. It was exactly what we were looking for - an attractive casita with a lovely pool and beautiful gardens - and a great location for trips out to the nearby Alpujjaras and Granada. However, we were mainly looking for a peaceful place to relax by the pool for a week and this is exactly what we found. The nearby town of Motril is pretty ordinary but well equipped, with two supermarkets. The immediate surroundings of agricultural polytunnels are eclipsed by stunning views up to the mountains and out to sea. We were particularly pleased with the accommodation – very charming inside with private roof terrace and space in the garden (and a good barbeque). Patrick, the owner, was very helpful and approachable – but also unobtrusive. We enjoyed the company of Ben and Jerry – who were particularly attentive at mealtimes! We will definitely consider renting the property again when we return to the area in the future.

We have just returned from two weeks in El Apartamento and are already discussing when we will go back .... if I say that in all our years of holidaying we have never been back to the same place twice, then this is an indication of how much we loved it. Everything you could possibly need within the apartment and outside has been thoughtfully provided by the charming owner, Patrick. The pool area, complete with fridge, sun beds, fountains, BBQ area and sink is set in lush gardens which are a riot of colour. As advertised, you do need a car as the property is in an agricultural area, however it is a fantastic base, and you can be in the nearest town, Motril, within 10 mins. We were in Granada (a must visit city) within 50 minutes and spent some time exploring the beautiful Alpujrarran villages which really are a must see. Locally and around this is NOT a touristy area, to our delight, we never even heard anyone speaking English. Local supermarkets have everything you need, huge array of fresh fish and meat, there are plenty of restaurants and bars and many other places slightly further afield to check out. All in all a fab place to stay and a great start for exploring Andalucia.

El apartmento is garden oasis where we relaxed in privacy under the shade of a beutifully planted garden, sunbathed on our own secluded terrace before cooling off at the pool. The aparment ten mins. from salobrena, shares the grounds with the owner and a second small rented property, though we hardly noticed until we meet at the pool at the bottom of the gardenl. All the amenties you would normally expect are provided making our stay a pleasure and we would happly return.

We have just spent some six weeks in el apartamento Cortijo Nuevo May/June2010. A rare gem to be found in Southern Spain far removed from what we term as crane country!! The apartamento offers everything one could want for a total chill out holiday with wonderful views of the sea and the mountains from the roof terrace. The garden is a haven full of beautiful plants and shrubs of every description and is a sanctuary for the many different birds that frequent it making use of the water offered from one of the many fountains found within the garden. The position of this accommodation is perfect for taking off into the mountains to enjoy the most breathtaking scenery or if you prefer the beach then that too is close by.Patrick is a great guy, always ready to help but never intrusive. Ben and Jerry are two loveable friendly dogs who were never a nuisance and always pleased to greet you. In all, it was a great holiday, thanks Patrick,we hope to return again one day. Tony and Mary.

Myself and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Casa Pequena. Patrick was very helpful and of course Ben and Gerry were a delight to have around. I loved the wild gardens, beautiful flowers and overall tranquill surroundings, a real country delight. I would recommend it to any of my friends who are into nature, animals and chilling out. Much nicer than a resort holiday and very central for sightseeing etc I hope to return again some day, & I will deffinitely stay in the cottage again.....Fab!

This was our 4th visit to the casita, and have stayed in both apartments. Casa Pequena is our favourite as it looks out onto the beautiful gardens, which are alive with colour, and attracts the butterflies, birds etc. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting outside of an evening in what seems like your own little paradise listening to the birds and watching the butterflies flitting around, and of course giving Ben and Jerry the 2 dogs some love... when you can get Ben to sit still!!!! The apts are equipped with everything you could possibly need for your break. The beaches are just a short drive away... Salobrena being our favourite. A trip to Granada is an absolute must, as is only 45 mins up the autovia, and the Alhambra Palace is breathtaking. Patrick is usually around if you need him, but, never intrusive, so you feel like the place is your own.

If you are looking for peace & tranquility, I could not recommend a better holiday home. There was everything you could ever want & more. There no restaurants close by so self catering is required. This did not provide any problems as there is a microwave, conventional oven & several bar-b-ques .But the fact the property is not close to town is clearly stated in the description. I will definately return.

Our holiday was shortened by the ash cloud but in four days we did manage to rest and enjoy the truly lovely, natural and interesting gardens, Motril, Nerja and La Joya beach. Patrick is a discreet and hospitable host and his dogs (Ben & Jerry) are curious, friendly and well behaved. A haven from package ordinary holidays and I would recommend for someone looking for a real Spain experience. Ignore comments relating to industrial surroundings - they are poly tunnels and not hugely offensive.

We stayed in the apartmento for a few days after touring in Andalucia to relax, for which the place is perfect. We especially enjoyed the private terrace on the roof top of the apartmento that gave me nice tan from spending siestas there and where light at sunsets allows to take beautiful photos of both mountins and the sea. The garden with many hidden corners for chilling and grilling is also lovely and a fine DVD collection in the aparment a nice bonus. The owner is helpful and always available when needed. We certainly recommend the place to everyone who appeciate more than resorts full of tourist traps have to offer.

My parents and I spent a very nice time at the Apartamento. Patrick is very kind, helpful and not intrusive at all. The two dogs are very well educated. We found everything we needed in the Apartamento, and we feeled like staying in the middle of the trees, that was very pleasant and different for us! The garden is a real dream, with its fountains. We tasted the avocadoes (very good and tasteful). We also appreciated a lot the area that remains Spanish, we got used to the greenhouses and it was finally a way to discover an unknown aspect of Spain. In brief, we highly recommend the Apartamento and we hope to come back someday. Just a suggestion to Patrick : a map from Puntalon to the Cortijo would be helpful the first time people go to the Nuevo Cortijo! Thank you again for everything, hasta luego!

Casa Pequena was absoultely beautiful. The inside was exactly our cup of tea. Rustic, authentic with a traditional spanish/moroccan feel about it. It was clean, fully equipped and we wanted for absolutely nothng. The outside was just spectacular. The gardens, bbq area and pool was just beautiful and very well maintained again with a very moroccan feel. Patrick the owner was a font of knowledge on the town and surrounding area and the perfect host - we knew he was there if we needed something but not intrusive. The dogs - Ben and Jerry also kept us company lying in the sun or sitting at our kitchen door at breakfast time. We will definately be returning again.

Our stay here was so much better than expected. It rained heavily each day we were there - and yet we still had a fantastic, relaxing time. The casita had all the facilities we needed - we even cooked our Christmas Dinner there and wanted for nothing. It really is a home from home´. The casita was snug, warm´(the wood burner is fabulous), relaxing the garden gorgeous the area perfect Patrick on hand when needed but not intrusive there was plenty of good walking for our dog Molly (and Ben & Jerry welcomed her with open paws!) we cannot praise this place enough and we will certainly be visiting again as soon as we are able to. Sitting on the sofa, candles lit and looking out over the fabulous garden while enjoying a glass of wine proved to be the perfect relaxing evening.

We were very pleased with this property. The setting and the facilities were very much to be praised with some unique and charming features, the honesty fridge springs to mind. The description was accurate, perhaps even understated and Patrick is an absolute gem who took very good care of us. The pool was spotlessly clean and the gardens stunning. The property was charming although it could have been cleaner. We did suffer some noise from the adjacent property playing their radio loudly and barking dogs, but this was a small blight on an otherwise very relaxing and idyllic holiday. We would most certainly return to CASA PEQUEÑA,

After an extremely relaxed enjoyable week, the easy way to explain this villa is to read all the reviews that have been submitted and we whole-heartedly agree with the majority. Yes you do require an open mind and accept the surroundings, but put those aside, ignore the access/ greenhouses, and this place is exactly what you want for a weeks get away from the general stresses of life. Patrick, Ben and Gerry are wonderful hosts, just remember to take the biscuits - not for Patrick tho! If you are arriving out of season, then be prepared for some quiet resorts however that didnt affect any part of the holiday, as most of our nights we stayed in the grounds using all facilities, BBQs, outside kitchen, pool area and alike. To sum it all up a perfect highly enjoyble and relaxing holiday was enjoyed by us both, in surroundings that couldnt have been better. Thank you Patrick and the boys!!

Cortijo Nuevo was an oasis! El Apartmento is reminiscient of a quaint English cottage with all the exotic touches that remind you that you are in the heart of authentic Andalucian countryside. Mere minutes away is the town of Motril, as well as other seaside towns and beaches near the Mediterranean! Although the little farmhouse and gardens are surrounded by the white roofs of greenhouses that have taken over the landscape - they are not a distraction. Actually, on your way into the property youll think "where the heck are we going", but you will be pleasantly surprised. Once youre in the gates of Cortijo - with its high walls - you are transported into a spa-like setting of luscious tropical gardens, terraces, a pool, and fountains. Even the dogs, Ben and Jerry, are a charming addition to the space and not a bother at all. Patrick - the host and owner - is a perfect gentleman and there to help with anything, but very inconspicious unless called upon. This is a place for people who like a home-like space in an authentic Spanish space. It is not the "spic and span" of a high-end hotel and is not for people who prefer the antiseptic feel of a condo. But if youve come to Spain to "feel" like youre in Spain - then youll love this heaven! The apartment is fully equipped - kitchen has everything - and even has some grocery supplies to make settling in easy if you havent got to the store yet. Patrick runs this on an honour system - meaning if you use something up, please replace it (i.e. spices, oils, beer, etc...) - that includes the poolside fridge stocked with drinks. We appreciated this policy as we had so much available for cooking! This apartment had everything needed - a cooler, mats, and umbrellas for the beach, fans, towels, TV, video, movies, books, info of the area, a gorgeous rooftop private terrace for an evening wine to watch the sun set, and that stocked kitchen! It is very much like a home - with every thing you might need! A gem! An oasis! Thank you Patrick, Ben and Jerry - well be back! Cheers, Pamela, Cristian, Luca (6) and Tulia (4) Canada

Casa Pequena is a really pleasant and quirky place to have a relaxing holiday and not be surrounded by the typical costa fish ,chips and english breakfast brigade. This is a mainly spanish resort for the Spanish so everything was cheap but of high quality including food and meals.Due to the lack of rain the gardens were not at there best but were filled with some wonderful plants and plenty of nooks and cranies to sit and enjoy .The pool was great especially after a day sunbathing at the beach.Patrick was very helpfull whenever we had a query and never invaded our privacy. The casa was very well equiped but not really suitable for anyone over six foot!!! The surrounding area especially the mountains were breathtaking.

Thank You Patrick, We really enjoyed our stay, we were very well taken cared of. We had a late arrival, so we were really happy to see that the fridge was filled with breakfast for the next morning. The apartment was well equipped (we preferrred to cock our meals at home instead of going out), cosy and the roof terrace was wonderful. The garden was amazing and exotic, where the honesty fridge by the pool was a bonus (beer and soft drinks). The area was charming and we appreciated that there were mostly local citizens and just a few turists like us. The beach was really nice and not far away. The short distance to Granada and Alhambra was another positive thing. We will most likely be back some day. Warmest Regards to Patrick (and his dogs Ben and Jerry) from the Swedish family Knöös

It is not made clear in the description, that a lot of the amenities / areas at the property are shared both with the owner, and with another holiday property on the site. Additionally, the photos on the web site are not very recent, and the garden has become overgrown, and some general maintenece is required here and there. The property is set amongst what can be best decribed as an industrised agriculture centre, with various machinery such as leaf blowers operatiing outside the siesta hours. Aside all this - we did have a wonderful and relaxing break

Owner reply:
To clarify:-
1) CASA PEQUEÑA website description is accurate and clearly states, shares interesting sub-tropical gardens with the owners traditional farmhouse Cortijo Nuevo & El Apartamento - also available for holiday rentals. Dozens of previous renters have understood and benefitted from this arrangement.
2) Amenities/areas shared = swimming pool, Summer kitchen & car park. Then only with any occupants staying in EL APARTAMENTO (1787) usually 2, occasionally 4 and sometimes none! I live on site in Cortijo Nuevo, respect guests privacy and do not use these same facilities.
3) Casa Pequeña enjoys two other private areas, a large terrace at ground level with BBQ and a roof terrace - both furnished.
(El Apartamento, also has two other private terraces).
In addition there are four more small terraces and other seating areas dotted around the gardens, that are indeed communal.
4) Pity that Lloyd did not grasp the ethos behind the gardens -informal in design, many years established. Manicured perfection they are not, but more a hybrid cottage/jungle style - aims to attract some wildlife. This overgrown garden remains quite an asset in parched Southern Spain and most visitors find it a refuge during the long hot Summers - normally dry May/late September. The importance of natural shade (rather than striped umbrellas) cannot be over emphasised.
Incidentally, nearly all the garden photos were shot Spring 2009 Feb/March time and therefore recent.
5) True the immediate surrounding area is intensive agriculture (preferable to housing estates/holiday complexes, that blight much of the coast?) but remains ordinarily quiet. Lloyd experienced limited noise couple of mornings as farmer next door preparing greenhouse for new planting of tomatoes. This happens infrequently - crop 3 times a year.
6) In spite of disappointments resulting in low score, pleased that Lloyd still had a WONDERFUL & RELAXING BREAK.

It is the first time we stayed at such a location as it is in the middle of the farming industry. It is full of green houses. No shops or restaurants nearby and in order to spent money one needs to travel to Mortrill hence it can be a cheap holiday for those who dont want to spend too much. One cannot walk to the beach as such as it is not within walking distance and a car is a must to get around. Some people may not like the dirt tracks which lead to the property. Very difficult to find in the dark but when you have been once you will be fine. Mosquitoes and flies were problematic to us but others were used to them. On the plus side the owner Patrick is very approachable and friendly and he will help you if you need anything. I can see some people would like it as it is different from the normal tourist locations.

Owner reply:
To clarify:-
1) EL APARTAMENTO, perhaps its location does appeal more to the traveller rather than average tourist. Situated amongst a Spanish farming community with no nearby expat restaurants/pubs, souvenir shops and the like! Nearby Puntalón (10 minute stroll) has a Spanish restaurant and 2 tapas bars - English not widely spoken. However, Motril (5 minute car journey) busy workaday town has excellent shops, bars/restaurants, supermarkets etc.,
2) Pleased Joseph noted that some people would like the location.....in fact over the years 100s have and I receive a good level of repeat business.
3) El Apartamento is indeed, different from normal tourist locations (this adds to its charm!) - but, resort towns like Almuñécar, Órgiva & Nerja can easily be reached with short car journey. Granada less than 50 minutes North on new motorway.

Just back from our second visit. The Casa is beautiful and has the most wonderful kitchen which is typically Spanish but with all mod cons. The gardens and pool were as always delightful. Patrick is a gracious host and we miss Ben and Gerry so much when we leave. My only gripe was that it was to hot!!!! A wonderful holiday as always, Sonya, Dan and Jim

This was our 3rd time to Cortijo Nuevo, but, this time we stayed in El Apartmento instead of Casa Pequena. Yet again we had a fantastic time. Days spent on the beach at Salobrena or around the pool. Evenings were spent relaxing on the roof terrace watching the sun go down behind the mountains... the views from the roof terrace are fantastic. Im certain well be back again in the future.

This was pretty nice stay. the house is wonderful with sunbathing terrace on the roof, fully equiped kitchen, mangal facility at little terrace right next to entrance door. Garden is good also but needs a kind of refreshing (Patrick started putting it all in order when we leaving, so I assume that it will be ok for the "hot" season). pool and relax area bring in additional value if you dont want go out. There is nothing to complain about the house and property owner -Patrick. He is extremely helpful and nice, but there is a couple of things which stand apart - location and surrounding areas. villa located amoung farms, where local spanish guys grow up fruts, veg, and stuff like that. As any kind of production farms produce not only goods but waste also. And when sun is down waste gives rank smell, As location is farm village you will not find any points of interest closer than Motril - about 2 miles away. Motril is just like any other city along costa tropical - not ugly not super (imho) - but shops, rest, super-markets, etc are availiable there)) So , this is it. you can make your own pros and cons regarding El APARTAMENTO, based on written above. if any questions, pls e-mail me Andrey Moscow, Russia

We very much enjoyed our stay in the cottage which was lovely and quirky. The gardens are idylic and a credit to Patrick - we enjoyed the pool and outdoor kitchen area and watching the sunset with a glass of wine on the roof terrace was a must each night. A car is essential and although Puntalon doesnt have much to offer a short drive takes you to some lovely places both inland and along the coast. Patricks dogs, Ben and Gerry were very welcoming and Patrick was very friendly and helpful. Well be back!!

Review submitted by Kelly from Portsmouth 31/05/2009
Overall, we had a lovely stay in Casa Pequena. Patrick could not have been more helpful and as others have said the Casita has everything that you could possibly need during your stay. We enjoyed the company of Ben and Jerry and evenings with wine and music cooking in the ouside kitchen by the pool which is beautiful. The gardens are lovely and the area is very quiet. It is possible to walk to two local bars/restuarants and we found them to be extremely freindly with good food. Do not under estimate the strength of the sun on the roof terraces even with the lovely breezes, we did and got burnt on the first day!

This property is very well kept and is perfect for a relaxing break. Patrick has done an excellent job of keeping the grounds luscious and the apartment very comfortable. We especially loved the swimming pool and barbecue area. Our only disappointment was the location, as the nearby town of Motril is largely an industrial town and a car is definitely necessary as there is not many within walking distance. However, this place is well positioned for visiting the towns along the Costa Tropical and is a reasonable distance from Granada. Thank you Patrick, we really enjoyed our stay!

Review submitted by Mia from Bergen op Zoom 16/05/2009
We had a very good time there. Every morning breakfast on the roof, enjoying the rising sun and the view to sea and mountains. Patrick is a very kind man who tries to do everything to make your stay as good as possible. The equipment in the kitchen is very good. Only one thing is not perfect: no table to sit for breakfast or dinner (in case it is too cold or rainy outside) Walking or sitting in the beautiful garden feels as if you are in heaven. The swimming pool is very nice.

Owner reply:
Thank You Mia & Paul for taking the time to submit your lovely Review.
Pleased that you enjoyed your time here and appreciated the beautiful garden and new roof terrace. As you found, in this climate easy to eat al fresco - using either table on the roof, lower dining terrace or up by the swimming pool/Summer kitchen area. Due to space restrictions, inside El Apartamento only a low coffee table and granite breakfast bar - ok for perhaps 2 travellers when weather cold and wet (quite rare down on the Costa Tropical!) but, not suitable for larger groups or entertaining.

Casa Pequeña is situated in a quiet area near a river which, when low, a motley herd of cows graze. The house is spacious and very tastefully furnished, with a well-equipped kitchen and modern hi-fi and satellite TV, should you miss the outside world. The garden, which has a pool, is large enough almost to get lost in with fruit trees, shrubs and a large variety of flowers, beautifully and almost inconspicuously tended by the owner, Patrick. There are so many nooks in the garden where you can sit in the sun or shade, take a dip and even enjoy a barbecue in the evening. There is a stunning panoramic view of the sea and the mountains from the roof terrace which is visited by light refreshing mountain breezes. It is an ideal place for people who enjoy the peace and quiet of the country and yet have easy access to the beach and the mountains. The near-by coastal town of Salobreña with an ancient city-centre provides you with pleasant walks and good restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our trips into the surrounding mountains stopping in lovely old "white villages". Patrick is a very welcoming host, you wouldnt know hes there, but should you need him hes always easy to find. He knows a great deal about the area and can give you any advice you might want with regard to sight-seeing and practical matters such as the best supermarkets in the neighbourhood. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pequeña and would love to stay there again.

My father and I stayed in Casa Pequena for a week at the beginning of April. Patrick (the owner) was extremely welcoming- hed left us lots of food essentials in the fridge and cupboards so we didnt have to rush off to the shops straight away! Patrick also had two lovely dogs- Ben and Jerry who would sit at our feet and keep us company! The gardens around the property were absolutely beautiful- filled with birds and butterflies. Unfortunately though it wasnt really warm enough to enjoy the pool at the end of the garden or sit out in the evening. Id reccommend it to anyone whos looking for a quiet retreat in Spain.

if you want a blissfully peaceful holiday in ideal surroundings then the apartment at cortijo nuevo is for you. my wife and i have just returned from a month long stay and will definitely return in the future. everything about the property was great, spacious inside with everything you need if you should want to self-cater. the garden is a veritable paradise, an eclectic mixture of orange, lemon and avocado trees interlarded with shrubs, flowers of all colours and sizes, fountains all over the place, secluded spots to sit in and enjoy the solitude. at the end of the garden a delightful communal sitting out area with a barbecue at hand, who could ask for anything more? well you get more for there is a small swimming pool which, like the remainder of the property, is lit up at night. the result of the lighting is a fairy land scene, especially when viewed from the roof terrace of the apartment. the latest addition by the friendly owner to enhance your visit. forget the rat race, the depression, grab a flight down to the cortijo-nuevo and sample life as it should be led. laid back, stressfree and enjoyed to the full.

a beautiful, incredibly restful and relaxing holiday place, with gorgeous gardens full of flowers even in february. very well situated for visiting Granada and the coastal towns of Salobrena etc. Very well equipped with Sky, dishwasher, microwave, etc (none of which we have at home!) and comfortable living areas inside and out. we really loved our stay here - one of the best places weve stayed in 8 years of visiting the Med. Shame it was (in Feb) a bit too cold to swim in the pool - but we still sat out most evenings. The cooking area is fantastic - Its a pity that more English people dont make use of the Paelleria cooker outside! Patrick and his dogs made us very welcome, and we loved the quiet, off the track situation with beautiful viewsl. Would (and will) highly recommend!

The apartment was very spacious and well-equipped. It was ideal for a couple looking for a reclusive holiday. the new rood terrace provided exclellent sun-bathing opportunities with its great views of the sea, surrounding countryside and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The garden was also a real oasis, even in winter.

This is our 2nd time to Casa Pequena this year, and we thouroughly enjoyed ourselves on both occasions. The apartment contains everything you would need to make your holiday a comfortable and relaxing stay. The garden is beautiful, with a number of spots for you to sit and relax. The pool area is lovely, with an area for BBQ. Casa Pequena is in a perfect location for getting out and about. The town of Motril is a 5 min drive, the beaches are just a short drive away, and Granada is only an hour away. We will definetely return.

We had a brilliant stay at El Apartmento, the apartment was great, kitted out with everything that we could need on our 2 week stay. Gardens were beautiful and the swimming pool and barbecue area were lovely on the warmer days, nice to be surrounded by so many colourful plants and shrubs. Ben and Jerry were our firm friends by the end of the stay, both great with our 3 year old son also. Patrick was fantastic, very helpful with anything he could do and the welcome pack was well beyond our expectations, enough to feed us for the first few days! All in all we had a super holiday, hope to go back again some day for more of the same! Love to Ben and Jerry Patrick and best wishes to you. Marc, Kim and Luis

Simply the best...2 weeks is not nearly time enough to spend in this lovely Casita. Off the beaten track yet close to a multitude of interesting places to visit, things to see & do, or if stressed by modern-day life, simply while-away the days in the peace of a beautiful garden - BLISS! I plan to return soon with some family members and rent El Apartamento also, cant wait! Dont think twice when choosing Casa Pequeña website description accurate, very clean on arrival, well-equipped + all creature comforts and still terrific value for money. You will not be disappointed - A1. Tomorrow, I reluctantly leave behind warm Andalucian sunshine and low prices for a wet, grey and expensive UK. Many thanks Patrick for a splendid stay in this gem of a property, far from your average holiday let - go on, try something different.

Me and my partner had an absolutely fantastic time....the location is great with the mountains and the sea just on the doorstep...waking up to sunshine and mountain views perfect. The apartment felt so homely and comfy and it had everything and more...especially loved the complimentary food on arrival. Patrick the owner had thought of everything down to a fridge by the pool. He was helpful, cheerful and unobtrusive and genuine nice guy...I would recommend this to anyone looking for a picturesque Spanish retreat. It was quiet and peaceful especially in the garden which was outstanding...many good memories.

Everything you need to have a pleasant time is provided, including if wanted the companionship of the two dogs, ”Ben & Gerry”. We had a little rain but it did not deflect from the time we spent relaxing. Would recommend this location for anyone who wants privacy and peace and quite.

Casa Pequena is a little paradise amongst the tomato tunnels in Motril. The cottage is quirky and cosy and the garden has a really magical quality. We stayed for a week and didnt want to leave the property as it was so nice and relaxing. Patricks attention to detail is fantastic and there are lots of surprising little touches to discover all around the cottage and garderns. I felt like a child again exploring the gardens and its variety of flowers and fruits and the amazing butterflies, insects and creatures that lived there. The pool is perfect if you want to spend full days relaxing and sun-bathing and the outdoor kitchen is better equipped than my kitchen at home! We found the cottage had everything we could possibly need and well exceeded our expectations with plenty of complementary food and drink on our arrival and even a dish washer, washing machine and smoothie maker! Patrick is always on hand with information on anything you may need but is never intrusive in any way. We had a truly magical holiday at the Casa Pequena and will look forward to returning again.

A super relaxing stay in a little oasis. The gardens and the pool plus the layout of the Casa Pequena made for fun times in our own little hideaway. Thanks to Patrick for being a great host and to Ben and Jerry the dogs for keeping an eye on us, we hope to return someday.

Patrick was an excellent host, unobtrusive but always there if you needed him. He even found a wheelchair for us as my wife occasionally needs assistance walking. Ben and Jerry are lovely dogs. El Apartamento was very comfortable and well furnished. We loved the garden and pool, a real oasis, and liked to relax there if we werent going out exploring. Corijo Nuevo is an excellent base for this, we went to the coast and would particularly recommend Nerja & Salobrena. We also went into the Alpujarras and the Alhambra, Granada, both well worth seeing and easily accessible by car. We got used to the nearby plastic greenhouses which are part of the local economy of the area.

Review submitted by Dave from Calgary 20/09/2008
We arrived from Canada tired and with 8 hours of jet lag on a Saturday afternoon. Patrick, the owner, had abundant food and drink awaiting us in the little casa so we could relax and enjoy the wonderful gardens and pool. A week has slipped by and reluctantly we must move on, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is not your average holiday rental, the casa is full of character including three doors, a spiral staircase and a roof terrace, it takes about a week to figure out the layout. There are an amazing number of neat spots to sit and relax, eat a meal or enjoy the sun and we had the pool to ourselves most of the time. The surroundings area has been affected by the development of commercial greenhouses but the garden is a true oasis. Patrick is available when needed but allows his guests the run of the place undisturbed. Ben and Jerry the dogs kept friendly eye on us. We hope to return someday.

This part of the Spanish coastline is arid inspite of the name Costa Tropicana. The mountains come close to the sea and any flat area is under intensive market gardening with plastic greenhouses. Cortijo Nuevo is in a colourful garden with shade and sunny areas, a small pool and terraces for dining/sitting outdoors. The rooms are accessed from outside so it is pleasant to live there in the summer. There is every amenity and kind of equipment. The host is attentive but has a relaxed manner . His dogs like people and we liked his dogs. The location is good for Granada, Sierra Nevada and the beach at Saborena. We enjoyed the tranquility of a rural location.

Stayed for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - very relaxed, excellent setting, nice and private. The apartment and gardens are very well kept and its very easy to make yourself at home - the self-catering facilities are excellent. As others have said, a car is essential, and if youre looking for night upon night of late-night parties, this isnt the place - but if you need a well-furnished, picturesque and relaxing break, definitely recommended.

Casa la pequena, is a beautiful property, set within the most fantastic gardens. The property has everything you would need to make your holiday just perfect...from the basics to the unexpected ie a blender which can crush your ice to make the perfect margheritas, and a mosquito net around the bed to protect you from those nightime beasties. The dogs Ben & Jerry are absolutley adorable, and are a pleasure to have around. The property is set in the perfect location, as its only a 10 -15 min drive to the beach...depending which one you go to (we liked Salobrena). Granada is just an hour away, and the directions to the Alhambra Palace are easy and hassle free to follow. The Sierra Nevadas are also easy to get to from Casa la pequena. Dont really want to recommend this place to anyone, as we are planning to return next year, and the more people that go the harder it will be to book our slot.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the Casa from the moment we arrived. The welcome pack was excellent and there are plenty of shops a short drive away for further supplies. The Casa is well equiped and we enjoyed cooking with herbs from the beautiful garden as well as making G&T's with lemons fresh from the tree! The host is helpful and welcoming but not intrusive in any way. He had plenty of suggestions re beaches, attractions etc although we were quite happy to lounge about by the pool and enjoy the lovely garden! I would definately recommend this place for a quiet get- away for couples.

We had a wonderful stay at el apartamiento. Just what we needed. A nice cosy comfortable place to retreat and rest. A place that you don't have to leave to enjoy the day. With the beautiful garden surrounding the property we felt like little kings in our paradise. Only in the end of the day we would take the car and visit one of the attractions in the surroundings. When we arrived we were a little shocked about the area with the overload of greenhouses, but as soon as we entered the property it felt completely different. The owner is very kind and caring and respects your privacy which is a plus. So our opinion : great retreat with value for money! car needed.

The accomodation was lovely. A tranquil setting yet close to the town. The garden is wondeful. All facilities provided including washing machine and dishwasher. The sun terrace is not overlooked and has splendid views. You will NOT like this accomodation if you want a selection of bars and restaurants on your doorstep and typical hotel style accomodation! Go to Malaga instead! The town is 2-3 kms distance and it is an unspoilt Spanish resort - long may this continue! You will need your own transport. We enjoyed days out exploring the area - the mountains, the mountain towns and the lovely coast. We were happy to relax on the terraces and the garden - the pool and bar-b-q area are lovely. There is plenty of room for alfresco dining. Read the owners web-site all information is there.

Review submitted by Chris from London 20/04/2008
This is a lovely property. The owner - who is very helpful - has made a real effort with the gardens, which are excellent, and has built a pool and outdoor cooking area which will be fantastic in summer. The house (there are a couple of different buildings - we stayed in a one bed house) is small but very well formed with a good kitchen and roof terrace. There are a few things that might be an issue - firstly the bedroom is a separate room to the rest of the house. Secondly there is a spiral staircase to get from kitchen to lounge, or you have to go outside. The area is a commercial agricultural area so don't go if you are expecting tourist villages and beaches. Overall I'd say it was good for people who wanted somewhere quiet and self contained for a break but probably less good for those who are looking for scenic countryside. The owner is very helpful - you will almost certainly have to call him to find the place!

Found the property exactly as described. The garden and pool area is very good and quite intersting with different areas of the garden to sit in. Quite like the fruit trees. In fact, brought some lemons home to make lemon cheese - gorgeous. The dogs were very good and no problem at all. We forgot they were around at times. As we read in other reviews do need a car to get around. Plenty of villages and beaches to see. All in all a good holiday. Patrick's welcome pack was extremely good and kept us going for a couple of days. The supermarket is very handy.

Comfortable and well equipped apartment. Beautiful garden with lots of sitting out areas. Patrick extremely helpful and responsive to requests. Convenient for Motril and places along coast. Neighbouring area blighted by ugly plastic greenhouses and illegal dumping but property well protected from this. Barking dogs and farmer's radio annoying but not much that Patrick could do about this.

For a week of relaxation this villa is ideal. The owner, Patrick, was very welcoming and friendly. The villa itself is nicely furnished, clean, and very well equiped. It is set in beautiful peaceful gardens with a great pool and barbeque area. For a couple just wanting to chill out in the sun this place is perfect!

Patrich was very friendly & helpful. His garden is lovely even for February. Our little dog was made welcome too. In the bedroon, the bed was very comfortable & we slept well, always a plus. The level of equipment was good with english televion channels available. Home from home. The accomodation was a little tired and needs some up dating. Never the less, we had a lovely holiday in a tranquil setting with a very friendly owner. The whole concept of the property & the garden is a winning combination. The pool area must be lovely in the summer months.

We stayed in el apartamento for a month in the middle of winter, and found it to be very comfortable. The property contained everything that we could have wished, and the proprietor lives on-site so he was able to put any problems right immediately. The garden is an oasis and very attractive, in contrast to the surrounding greenhouses; it is possible to forget they are there, but the approach is not attractive. Overall, however, we were very satisfied and would go there again.

the accomadation was really good for us as Patrick allowed us to bring our 2 dogs and being able to just go out of the gate walking with them was easy, the location was also very good it gave great access to anything you wanted to do sea, mountians, town for shopping and eating, the welcome pack was more than excellant we live in spain and understand about shops closing but if you travel to spain you usually arrive on a saturday and most shops shut lunchtime until monday but patrick had covered everything possible you might need and then also if you wanted to cook the little things you may need to make a meal s&p oil etc, we were warm and comfortable our holiday was in november, nice to have the tele and radio etc, all in all a very good break for us, thank you patrick oh and his 2 dogs are smashing

We were looking for a quiet relaxing holiday and CASA PEQUEÑA was the perfect location. The accommodation was full of character - the high points being the comprehensively equipped kitchen with it's spiral staircase, the stunning views from the roof terrace and the extensive gardens. The welcome pack that Patrick left was extremely thoughtful, with everything we needed to make a meal and set us up for the first few days - which really took any pressure off and allowed us to relax straight away. The town of Motril was worth exploring and there were plenty of beaches within a 15 minute drive. Salobrena was particularly good for restaurants, and it's worth mentioning the English speaking internet cafe on the beach front. If you've got time, it's worth a drive up into the hills. All in all the casa was perfect for two, with plenty of little corners to escape in the sunshine.

El apartmento is very comfortable and homely with character. It is built over the owner's home but separate and private, self-contained and well equipped - (Bit like going to stay with a relative). There are nice views from the apartment balcony area. The owner, Patrick, was friendly and helpful and very unhurried. We were not disturbed but he was usually around to help round the clock. We went to relax and that is what we did. We had full use of Patrick's tropical garden which was very interesting (Patrick has a passion for ornament and is always coming back from town with something of intrerest). We enjoyed the use of the swimming pool, but the pool area was being improved during our visit (quiet time of year) There should be some pictures on the webpage by Christmas. We did not want a touristy town and the area was interesting seeing how the local people live. The trip from Malaga Airport in our little hire car was straightforward. We needed the car to take full advantage of the location. Now I know where Tesco get their cucumbers. Nearly forgot to mention 2 well behaved dogs, Ben and Jerry, who love food and friendly but were never toublesome. Well done Patrick and kind regards to your Dad (So be it!)

Well done Patrick.

The equivalant tranquility of an English garden but without the rain cold weather and midges {we are from Scotland} Holiday accomodation can be very clinical with a few token naff pictures and spartan furniture. Here Patrick the owner has put in great resourse of thought time and money to make the Villas very homley and quirky we quikly felt at home. Out and about all the local towns offered good value food and drink with plenty to look at and great beaches. Patrick (and Ben and Gerry the dogs) did not intrude Patrick was more than happy to chat and give time to advise on places to visit and pass on local history when asked. A great relaxing break We would both like another visit. A sub tropical oasis in a sea of greenhouses. Duncan and Jenny.

Casa Pequena is very well-equipped and our 3-week stay was very enjoyable. It is peaceful and relaxing and provides an excellent base for touring the area. The property is furnished to a high standered with all the comforts you would have in your own home. The property has an exceptional garden with many outdoor rooms each with its own unique character. All of which offer shade or sun. The swimming pool is an added bonus which is available any time. The location of the property is on the outskirts of Motril and requires transport to get out and about to see the surrounding areas which are all within a reasonable drive. The owner Patrick is an exceptional host and takes great care of the properties and gueust alike.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pequena. The casa is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning gardens and a wonderful, relaxing ambience. Patrick was a fabulous host and the welcome pack of wine, cheese, bread etc, was a lovely touch. We found that Motril was a great base for exploring some of the less touristy parts of Andalucia, with the casa only being a short drive from the stunning Alpujarras mountains. We took our 2 year old daughter along with us, who loved the swimming pool and made great friends of Ben and Gerry. We would recommend the casa to anyone after a chillout and a break from the hustle and bustle of life. The roof terrace at night is particulary special. Enjoy!

Our family enjoyed a relaxed and very comfortable fortnight at the apartment. The apartment was very well equipped down to the last detail - in fact, every time we thought of something that was missing, we found it. Patrick the owner made us feel very welcome and was on hand to help whenever we needed. After days out exploring (the coast*, mountains or visiting nearby cities - all within an hours drive - (*the coast just 10 minutes away)) coming back to El Cortijo Nuevo was like entering charmed little haven. Looking forward to a return visit!

The four of us (two adults, and two twelve year old boys) have just returned from a week at Casa Pequena, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We wish we could have stayed on another week. The garden is a delight for all the senses. Our boys enjoyed the pool on the long hot days, and we sat out until late at night in the many different parts of the garden. We also enjoyed using the very well stocked kitchen. We packed a fair bit in over the week: Malaga for the Picasso Museum; the Alpujarras (visited the Tibetan Monastery there: a wild and lonely spot); resorts at Salobrena, Calohonda (where our boys played football with the locals), Amunecar and Castell de Ferro; Nerja (astonishing caves); and did some mountain walking around Itrabo, although August is a bit hot for that sort of thing. We regret not getting to the Alhambra. It's worth booking tickets online weeks in advance, or you'll have to get up early and queue for hours to get the tickets available on the day. Patrick is, as other reviews say, the perfect host: friendly and informative while being totally unobtrusive. Thanks, Patrick, for making it a holiday to remember.

We had a very nice time in El Apartemento. We liked the comfortable, excellent equipped apartement, the beautiful garden and the pool very much. Our favourite beach, a beautiful small rocky bay was just 10 minutes drive away. The owner was a great host! We will recommend it to all of our friends searching for apartements in Spain. We are really happy to have chosen the apartement! Thank you for the nice time!

A well furnished apartment with lovely private gardens and pool which made a great location for a relaxing holiday. There were also very nice touches by the owner who bought some food in before we arrived and also had a big folder of reviews of the local area which were extremely useful as it was our first trip to the area. I would strongly recommend that future visitors bring a car as the town is not easy to reach by foot and the property itself is off a dirt track. The best beach we found was in Salobrena which is rocky but clean and has nice bars and resteraunts along the front. Many thanks to Patrick... I would certainly recommend to a friend!

We found the property to be ideal for a nice peaceful holiday, the hospitality shown by Patrick surpassed all expectation. It was very much home from home and very relaxing. Interesting serenade from the frogs at night. Despite the farming tent city surrounding the property it was an oasis of tranquillity and great beauty. Casa Pequena was very quirky but we enjoyed it immensely and would definitely return.

We had an absolutely lovely holiday in El Apartemento - it's a great location near some lovely towns to visit but away from the hustle and bustle so we could get away from it all and relax. The apartment was brilliant - really well stocked and with everything we needed for our holiday; and if there is something extra we needed, Patrick is more then happy to help. The new dishwasher is a great addition too! Overall a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and we would definatley recommend it to a friend. Thanks Patrick.

We have just returned home from a far too short 4 day stay at Casa Pequena. The property is quirky, very appealing and extremely well equipped. The welcome pack was excellent....and very welcome (especially the Cava)! The garden is a little oasis! We relaxed, read books, barbecued every night and generally unwound. Patrick is the perfect host - available but unobtrusive. Casa Pequena is well located for the Alpujarras, Granada and Salobrena. Try restaurant El Chambao de Joaquim right at the northern end of the excellent beach in La Herradura. Fantastic location and lunch.

Casa Pequeno is a delightful place to stay. The patio of the cottage leads directly onto the gardens and pool area. The gardens designed by the owner Patrick are a credit to him, designed with shady and sunny areas. The roof top terrace is a lovely place to sit and have dinner and watch the sun set behind the mountains. The kitchen is very well equipped with all mod cons. Only 5 mins from Motril by car, there are numerous restaurants and tapas bars to enjoy the flavours of the mediteranean, not an `english bar` in sight. Patrick the owner is there if you need anything, but not intrusive in any way. The two resident dogs Benny and Jerry will also make you welcome! A very enjoyable holiday

We enjoyed our stay very much. The property is situated approx 5 mins by car from Motril, where there is an abundance of excellent Tapas bars and restaurants. The gardens are the work of the owner Patrick and he has created a little oasis, there are sunny areas or shady whatever you prefer. The pool was great for cooling off in the heat, only shared with guests in the other accomodation, we had it to ourselves most of the time. The accomodation felt as though you were using someones home rather than the clinical feel there is to some rented properties. The property is peaceful, far enough away from the road not to be bothered by the testosterone fuelled spanish teenagers on there scooters!!! Patrick the owner lives on site with his father , on hand if you have any problems but unobtrusive if you don't. Ben and Jerry the two resident rescue dogs are delightful. Taxis to and from Motril are in abundence, however to fully enjoy the surrounding beaches and mountains a car is adviseable. We were also delighted that there was'nt "an english breakfast or roast dinner" menu to be found............ We had a wonderful holiday.

What a lovely house to spend a week recharging your batteries. So peaceful and private in the wonderful gardens and pool area. So many little places to sit and relax that we couldn't get through them all in just one week. Patrick , the owner left the biggest welcome pack we have ever seen, which meant we could start relaxing straight away and not have to worry about shopping. With a well equipped kitchen and a beautiful herb garden a culinary expert would want for nothing here. It it this attention to detail that's makes this house so unique. Overall well presented and tastefully decorated and two lovely dogs that will welcome you with open paws , we highly recommend Casa Pequena. We would however recommend that you hire a car as the town is five minutes drive.

ok, we're biased - we've stayed before, we loved it so we came back. Hopefully we'll be back again. The local area around Motril remains unspoilt by the inevitable onset of tourist property development, the sugar cane is mostly gone now replaced by commercial agriculture (plasticultura). For scenery you can be in the Alpujarras in an hour. Granada and the Alhambra a bit longer. You can visit long beaches or rocky coves along the coastline. The accomodation is great - quirky design and location - but with everything you need to be self sufficient set in a marvelous, peaceful garden. Swim, rustle up some food and then sit on the balcony in the evening, listen to the birds - no bars or disco. Yesterday we played chess in the peace of the garden, sat on a beach looking up at snow-covered Sierra Nevada peaks, and by nightfall we were in Devon. What more could you want.

We had such a lovely time, thank you so much Patrick. As everyone else says in other reviews, it's all the little touches that make it such a nice place to stay - the barbeque, the candles, the welcome pack, the pool, the amazing garden....and of course the doggies!

We had a fantastic time at Casa Pequena. It is a beautiful Spanish styled cottage set amongst a gorgeous cottage garden with plenty of areas to sit and read. If you are interested in a relaxing and peaceful stay then this place is perfect. From the moment we arrived we were looked after very well by the owner who was there if you needed anything but otherwise very unobtrusive. The food and wine awaiting us on the first night was very much appreciated too. Also a great base if you are wanting to visit other villlages in the area. We wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending this place to prospective guests.

El Apartmento is a delightful place to stay. The gardens are wonderful, we did not know such tropical havens existed in the hot south of Spain! Lots of shady spots, and random pots, fountains and pathways to explore. The accommodation itself was spacious, and very homely. We enjoyed the touches of home, such as candles, DVDs and comfy sofas. Very different to staying in a clinical, purpose built holiday apartment.

Cortijo Nuevo is hidden down a dirt track amongst the local fruit & veg farms. The gardens are lovely and the pool is great for the kids. Of a night it's very quiet with only the water in the fountains for company. El Apartamento was ideal for our needs & very comfortable. Patrick, the owner, was very helpful and the kids loved the dogs. Overall we had a very enjoyable, relaxing time. Many thanks for the welcome pack, we couldn't eat all the strawberries, and the red wine the night before we left! Fortunately we made our flight!!

We stayed at Casa Pequena In April 2007, whilst searching the area for a property to purchase. Did'nt do too much research - enjoyed the Casa a little to much!! What a beautiful setting (all be it surrounded by plastic). The gardens that Patrick has put so much hard work into are a delight, his Dad a pleasure to chat with, his gorgeous dogs (who went mad when we first arrived and thereafter didnt find us interesting at all) a delight. Welcome pack - very welcome and enjoyable - especially the Cava after a days travelling. Casa - quirky! We loved quirky!! Clean, well stocked, quiet in fact anything you could want for a happy romantic (candles everywhere) holiday. we shall return. Well done Patrick - you work hard to ensure your guest enjoy!!

We stayed at El Apartemento for 10 days in april and liked the place very much. As mentioned in other reviews as soon as you get inside the gate you enter a very relaxed athmosphere with a lovely garden, nice pool, and a fully equipted flat, that meets all your needs. A very nice detail was the welcoming package, which was most helpfull on a late arrival. Our boy loved the dogs with their friendly and laid back attitude. Patrick is a very good host, who knows the balance between the needs for care taking as well as privacy. The place is hereby highly recommended for children.

Review submitted by Kev from Cortijo Nuevo, Puntalon, Motril. 17/04/2007
The approach road to the property does not bode well as it is a dirt track and you are surrounded by canvas covered greenhouses! However once you are inside the gates of the property you are in landscaped gardens which are a treat on the eye and relax the mind. A lot of work and effort has gone into this area. The apartment is clean, spacious and is equipped for all living needs. The remote location allows for total peace (unthinkable in most areas of the UK!) Patrick is a gracious host, achieving the balance of always being available for problems and info but also getting on with his own business. Do not book in this area if you want english pubs & breakfasts, it is still, thankfully, very Spanish!

Even for a long winter let, i.e. February and March, we were very comfortable and well looked after by the owner, including our small dog. The kitchen was extremely well equipped for a self-catering property as was the rest of the Casita. The garden and luckily the weather were marvellous. A lot of road and drainage work was going on, but that will only improve the area. Well worth a visit.

Review submitted by Rauschenberg from Munich, Germany 07/04/2007
We stayed at the apartement in March for 2 weeks. Very comfortable, quiet, very English furnished. Internet cable and telephone keep you in touch to your family back home. Patrick is uncomplicated, and always ready to help with advice. The garden is just my absolute favourite: many hidden places, where you can lye down naked in the bushes, enjoy sunshine and forget the wind. The dogs Ben and Jerry will eventually keep you company, especially if there are cookies nearby 😉 The surrounding area makes a strong contrast to the house: everywhere you turn around there are greenhouses covered in plastic. This is tipical to this area. We came here for cycling and enjoyed the quiet streets, steep slopes leading up into the Alpujarra, which is still a virgin land for bikers. I can recommend this area for spring training (but don't try Mulhacen by bike, you might get stuck in deep snow!). Many greetings to Patrick & father & the dogs.

Owner reply:
Many thanks - Adela & Joerg,
pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found some time to relax in the gardens between cycle training and internet work.
Next time visit in the Summer months, less snow on Mulhacen & around the Sierra Nevadas!
Regards, Patrick.

The gardens were secluded and as wonderfull as the pictures shown on the web sight, the pool was great at the end of a hard day exploring the countryside. The most relaxing holiday we've ever had – so peaceful. The owner couldn’t be more helpful, there if you need help, but otherwise unobtrusive. Everthing we needed was there – excellently equipped kitchen, satelite TV, wireless broadband internet, comfy bed … even hot water bottles. The layout of the villa is a little quirky – but that only added to the charm. Delightful mature gardens & private pool, which aren’t over-looked by any close neighbouring properties. Helps if you like dogs as the owner has 2 fairly large, but very friendly hounds called Ben & Gerry. A car is a must as it’s too far to walk to either the town (Motril) or the sea. We’ve already booked for next year – which can’t come soon enough. Sally & Graeme

Owner reply:
Many thanks Graeme & Sally, pleased you enjoyed your stay & found time to relax in the gardens. Ben & Jerry missing you already! See you next time.

'You've done a fantastic job with Casa Pequeña & the garden, its a fantastic environment for a restful holiday. We certainly had the most relaxing holiday that we've ever had! We really can't think of anything you could do to improve the Casita ... it has everything that you could need, whilst maintaining the traditional Spanish feel to it.

'We had a lovely holiday and felt like we were living in our own Spanish house, we certainly didn't want to leave. It is a very relaxing place ... will miss sitting up on the terrace in the evenings with the mountains as scenery.

'thank you so much for providing such a wonderful holiday base. We loved Casa Pequeña with its spiral staircase and sun-drenched roof terrace, looking out onto those lush gardens. We particularly appreciated how well stocked the house was ... we really feel that you went above & beyond the necessary, to provide a really idyllic holiday villa. Thanks again for your kindness'.

'Thank you for making us feel so welcome in the apartment. We have really enjoyed our month here....everything was perfect for us & our dogs. Your garden is just beautiful....I'll certainly recommend to my friends. The internet connection made communication with the family easy & Sky tv kept us up to date with Eastenders!! Thank you again'.

'Thanks for a very pleasant stay here in Motril.
We've enjoyed the Apartment, the gardens, the pool & not least the dogs! Nice to be able to stay away from everything & still be close to so much to do.

We absolutely loved our two weeks in El Apartamento, just a shame we had to go home as we could easily have stayed! spending morning till night in your stunning garden....hope to get over before the end of the year as there is only one place we want to stay while househunting, so hopefully see you then'.

The Property is situated in Market Garden Greenhouse farmland East of Motril in 'Spanish' Spain. A delightful and relaxing holiday was the result and the roof terrace above the garden afforded a cooling breeze and stunning views of the coast, Sierra Nevada Mountains, and Motril itself. The property was very well equipped and the owners very welcoming and helpful. A definite must-try for the independent traveller wishing to escape 'Little-Britain on the Costas!

  • Wonderful oasis of peace and tranquility in a wonderful part of Spain.

  • Just spent 2 weeks in the Apartamento and would love to stay there forever. It became a home right away.. all the bases covered. The rooftop was great for evening dinners while watching the sunset over the harbour and mountains, the patio was equally great for morning coffee. Motril is well placed to visit many attractions in Andalucia. Loved the garden. Thanks Patrick for a great stay… it was fun getting to know you, Ben and Jerry.

  • HEMOS DISFRUTADO DE LAS VISTAS ESPECTACULARES, EL JARDIN ES UNA MARAVILLA QUE TE INSPIRA CALMA, ES EL MEJOR SITIO PARA RELAJARTE EN CASO DE EXTRES, A MI FAMILIA Y A MI NOS HA ENCANTADO, AUNQUE HEMOS DISFRUTADO POCO TIEMPO PERO EL CLIMA Y EL TIEMPO NOS HA ACOMPAÑADO.UN SALUDO DESDE CASTILLA LA MANCHA.
